Hey..Look what I found

I cleaned out my truck and low and behold I found this "new vehicle warranty". I have the original owners manual, but this and the original owners warranty tag I found with the warranty brochure is kinda neet.

The tag is refered to as the protecto plate. It was used like a credit card. It has the original owner's name and addy and stuff, and they'd make an impression of it onto the warranty papers when ever it was brought in for repairs.
My first truck had all that too...pluss the recall paper work for the junk motor mounts.

I have seen many classic cars and trucks for sale and in the ad they said "Includes the protecto plate". Always wondered what that protecto plate was. Now I know. Love this board. You learn something new everday. Worth every penny of the $25.00 a year to keep this board and Josh going.

That picture doesn't show the actual protecto plate, but only the warranty booklet. As Longhorn says, the plate was used to

make an impression of it onto the warranty papers
. The protecto plate is an aluminum card with raised letering that would often be attached to the backside of the warranty booklet.

Re: Hey..Look what I found

So, does this picture show the "Protecto" plate? My truck also still has the Owner's Manual (in the plastic case not pictured).

Re: Hey..Look what I found

I still have my Dad's first new car (69 Pontiac 2+2). When it was new an axle seal went, which always takes the brakes with it. They only covered the fifty cent seal under warranty, made him pay for the (new but full of oil) brakes.

He was so annoyed he crumpled up the Protect-o-plate and tossed it in the guy's garbage in front of him, saying "That's what that's worth". Apparently the service guy tried to straighten it out, saying my Dad would need but, but he had no interest in it. So now I don't have the Protecto-Plate for my own car, a second-owner, one-family vehicle!

I do have an imprint of it from that service visit though, which I only found last year. I'd heard the story, then 40+ years later found the bill for that very service trip in 1970.

Re: Hey..Look what I found

I hate to burst your bubble, but the warranty has expired on your truck...

And that is a cool find, hang on to it.
