What are the Nevada emission laws??

So my boss asked me if I would like to transfer to Las Vegas. I thought "cool, why not?" So I got to thinking about the emission laws. Here in San Bernardino County, California, we don't have to smog '73 and older. So I don't have to smog my '69. But somthing about a 5 mile buffer zone of Las Vegas valley which I'll be within that zone requires smog expect for '67 and older. So here's where I'm confused.
In California any aftermarket smog requires a C.A.R.B. number to be legal otherwise the visual will fail.
Can't run long tube headers unless C.A.R.B.
Can't relocate cats.
And also the Nevada smog web site says can't modify engines?????
I thought as long as it passes the tail pipe regardless of modifacations, all is good.

So what can and can't I do to my vehicles?? Please be as detailed as possible. Thanks.

I thought only around the Phoenix area of Arizona did emissions testing that old. I'm pretty sure in Vegas you can register it as a classic and not smog it.

Re: What are the Nevada emission laws??

So I’ve lived in Reno 20 plus years and it’s still confusing. In the 2 big counties, Washoe and Clark, anything 68 and later needs smog. The way around it is to register as a classic car. You are limited to 5000 miles per year and have to do an odometer statement each year. They have never done a visual smog check on my classic cars but if you bring one in from out of state they do a vin inspection and I do not know if you can register as classic from out of state. Also, you need titles for everything even 40 year old mini bikes that never had one in the first place. I think engine swaps etc are next to impossible in the two smog counties.

Crazy. Almost impossible to do engine swaps?? And may not be able to register as a classic from another state?? Sounds worst than california. What am I supposed to do since my 69 doesn't have the original motor??

Re: What are the Nevada emission laws??

Walk in slap your paper work down and pull out your credit card , I seriously doubt anyone at dmv knows the specifics of your 69 chevy truck , With no vin reference on the engine how would they ? let alone looking for hidden vin #'s on the frame or even have a clue about the spid ... if it even has one in the glove box , they're 50 years old ,Probably older than the dmv agent who drives a kia and doesn't want to walk out in the heat ...

Re: What are the Nevada emission laws??

All I know is I sold my 1968 Bug to a guy in Vegas and he called me asking if I had the smog equipment for it. I told him that I never smogged it. Never had a reason to, it was exempt.
Apparently not the case in Vegas.

Re: What are the Nevada emission laws??

Vegas is basically a shade of California and catching up. The people who built a lot of Vegas built in So. Ca. as well. Entertainment industry, etc. So, bunches and lots of rules, and worse by the day.

Nevada does vary by county. As of the moment, my city of registration doesn't require smog. 20 minutes from here is a different story.
