Parking Brake Cable

This forum has been really helpful to me so I'm coming back again for some advice. My son's truck has the original parking brake ratchet system from 1953, but the cable is snapped off and needs to be replaced. Can someone tell me how to remove the cable remnant from the ratchet rod and install a new one? I've posted a picture of this "post" that sticks up but I'm not sure if that fastens the cable in or is just used as a guide. Thanks!

Re: Parking Brake Cable

That post guids the handle. When its on you turn the handle to release it & when it gets back the narrow channel returns it to straight. It seems like I used to pull the post out to turn the shaft far enough to take out the ball on the cable. It is pressed in. Its been many years but I kinda remember it. I think you can pull it out with a pair of dikes.

Re: Parking Brake Cable

Thank you! You were 100% correct. I put a little penetrating oil on it and let it sit overnight and it popped right out this morning. Now all I have to do is find a replacement cable with a ball on the end....

Thanks again.
