Door locks

Why has my AD only got an exterior lock on the passenger side? What was the thinking behind that back in the 40's?

Re: Door locks

Driver slid across the seat and exited/entered on the sidewalk side or side of road away from traffic. Most people did not even bother locking their cars back then....

Re: Door locks

Buy a lock kit from say lmc, that includes drivers passenger locks, or get remote central locking

Re: Door locks

Remotes seem cool but you still need a manual emergency latch which kind of defeats the purpose of a lock, any thief will know where they are. Drivers handle with lock is easy proven solution.

Re: Door locks

You could use the electrically operated pin locks like they make for suicide doors but put them in the back posts to hold the door securely locked when the truck is parked.

Something similar to this http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Suicid...ches,2269.html

Re: Door locks

Had a look on LMC but can't see any driver's side locking door handles for a 49

Re: Door locks

99 to life had a good fix with some actuators and keyless entry that I can't find right now. I'm going to do something similar and then have a wired up lead under the truck for emergency.

Re: Door locks

I moved the passenger lock to the driver's side.
No passenger outside lock, now, so I have to push the inside handle to lock.

Re: Door locks

My '55 came with barrel bolts, inside, on both doors. Worked good to keep the doors from opening in the turns, as both latches were worn out! Don't quite know how the PO locked it up, guess when you are sleeping in the cab you could lock both doors and keep the zombies out? I bought new latches and door handles with lock on drivers side and push button on passenger side. On 55 2nd they are reversible side to side.

Re: Door locks

I put in Altman bear claw style latches and added power remote locks. I will use the pass side door lock cylinder to unlock if I lose power or the system fails somehow.

It wont show for the drivers side.
If yours has the turn down handle you will have a problem due to the fact the hole is not in the door. If it is the push button the drivers and passengers side are universal.
I cant remember when the door handles changed. I think 51

Easier fix if you have the turndowns are the pin locks similar to suicide locks. I pin easy mount and 2 wires with a remote
