Sal's '55 Chevy "Public Disturbance"

Hi Guys,

Well i know some have seen me post some questions on this forum and if you haven't well i think its about that time. I am starting my thread to my project i call her "Public Disturbance" i will get into why i picked that name later. I bought this truck a few miles down the road from my house, it was just sitting in someones back yard just trying to dig its grave site. I have made a lot of progress but i will rewind time and start over for everyone. So now the the introduction of "Public Disturbance" when i bought it for a really good price.

I have over 200 photos and I'm not even half way through my build project. I'm going to get a digital slide show photo frame for my build photos. It will make a good conversation piece for my office.

love the pictures of trucks that are either half buried in dirt - or forgotton in thickets - trees -overun by tall grasses or brush or weeds - then found and ressurected - the stories they could tell .

Re: Sal's '55 Chevy "Public Disturbance"

i pulled the motor out and been looking to see whats the best option for my truck a IFS mustang II suspension or putting a camaro clip on it. I have heard the mustang II does not do well on the highway. Has anyone heard of anything bad as far as any of these options? I want your votes that would be helpful....

Hey Sal,

I have been installing mustang 2 suspension for years and never had an issue with how they ride. I use Heidts or TCI units. Now I have a friend who has a Mustang 2 from a Mustang 2 donor car and I don't like the way it rides and that could be what people are talking about. I think its the installation because my brother did one back in the day and the ride was fine.

I do believe there are better options with aftermarket suspensions like your Scotts IFS, No limit IFS, Heidts Superride, The higher end TCI stuff, etc. The mustang 2 was in my budget so I went that route. If I was to do it again I would lean towards one of the above or just do a Flatout Engineering crossmember with the corvette components. Reason? I like the upper a arms design better on those units, but thats just me.

Now as for donor cars you can't go wrong with a GM Clip. If it is installed right its completely safe and rides great and its been done for years with great results. I personally prefer the 78-88 Monte Carlo for 55-59 trucks because the track width is not as wide as the Carmaro but the Carmaro/Firebird clip is more commonly used. I still install clips on people rides and a lot of guys I know still prefer them.

Its all about choices there is no right are wrong. It's all about what you really want and can afford. I hope this helps a little in your decision making.

Thanks for the feedback Kawbe, i like the real clean look of the mustang 2 suspensions and its not like i will be on the highway much but it is a little out of my budget.... I would either have to look for a donor car on craigslist and if not maybe a mustang 2 on a budget.

Re: Sal's '55 Chevy "Public Disturbance"

I used a FatMan Mustang II and have no problems on the road. I will in the future go with a newer rack, as the older ones seem to make the steering a little quick for my liking even with the power steering pump modified to reduce the pressure. I like the name of your truck. Best wishes for a great truck when your done.
