Wiring the cigar lighter

Im sorry if this is a silly question but Id like to know how to wire up the cigar lighter. Diagram shows it has a heavy gauge wire that connects to the BAT terminal of the ignition switch. The outer housing of the lighter unit apparently grounds itself into the dash. Im running the correct accessory junction box. I assume I can run a wire frm one of the BAT terminals of the junction box (I think there is one labelled ). The question is, to use these terminals, I need to complete to use a fuse....what type of fuse should be used? What gauge wire should be used? THanks alot for the advice!

Yes, you need a fuse, 14 Ga wire and a 15 amp fuse will be fine.

I'm thinking 14 gage is pretty light for a lighter.
Most factory lighters in these trucks aren't fused as they draw some pretty good amps. When you push the lighter in to get it hot you are basically creating a short using a resistor to do so.

I'd say 10 gage minimum wire and wired directly to the Bat terminal on the fuse block or a hot all the time terminal. Don't run it through the ignition switch what ever you do as that puts too much load on the switch.

On mine (to be used for aux power) I used 12 GA wire from an unused circuit (power windows) on my EZwire fuse box. I think original comes from the light switch, as Mr48 said I changed it. Just had a thought, I need to check and see if that circuit is switched or not, I want it to be unswitched. You can tap off of any powered circuit and use a fusible link or inline fuse.
