HELP what did i break?

i got stuck in a snow drift and went to back up. put it in reverse and let off the clutch and it jumped out of gear. the motor still runs good but the truck wont move. the clutch pedal goes to the floor and wont come up unless you pull it. and you can put it in any gear with the motor running and not pressing on the clutch. what did i break? and its not the drive shafts.

thanks in advance James

Re: HELP what did i break?

That's a bummer, I've done similar before, it ended up that i bent the linkage. Allot of snow gets up in there when you stuff the truck in the bank so check all your linkage. If everything looks in order then ya may have lost your clutch. Good luck with it.

thanks...didn't think about that. snow might have also got stuck in around it binding the linkage and keeping the clutch from engaging. i will check it out first thing in the morning

Re: HELP what did i break?

Sounds like the clutch is stuck disengaged or completely blown. I'm going to be so bold as to guess it's stuck. As stated previously, checking the linkage is a good place to start. If the pedal moves freely but won't return on it's own, I'm going to be even more bold and guess the linkage came apart or broke somewhere. I don't know why the clutch would stick disengaged unless the under carriage is packed with snow real tight or the linkage is jammed against something.

Re: HELP what did i break?

What is your tcase doing? Shifter still work well? Any difference between high and low range? If it is the clutch you won't be able to get it in or out of gear without griding. Put it in 3rd gear and let the clutch out, then, back in and try to grab reverse. If something is broken my bet is output shaft on the tranny - believe it's a 10 spline.

Or the sleeve that connects the tranny output to the t-case input.

Re: HELP what did i break?

I don't think any amount of packed snow cold hold back the clutch linkage. I think it sounds like the input shaft because it sounds like the motor isn't turning the transmission.

Re: HELP what did i break?

the clutch linkage came off of the clutch fork....got that put back together now it wont turn over. the battery isn't dead and i can see the starter engaging. so i think the clutches are all frozen together to the flywheel

Re: HELP what did i break?

Can't start it in neutral with the clutch in? Do you have a place to defrost?
