Stock Muncie SM465 and T221

I need to rebuild the stock T221 or swap it for a new Tcase. I continue to read good things about my transmission, and like the low gearing, so i am keeping the Muncie 4speed. About 100,000 on the muncie, we are the original owners of the truck. What t-case will bolt in easy? Thanks.

Re: Stock Muncie SM465 and T221

When my T221 ate up a bearing I swapped in an NP205 and found I had to make a few changes so I wouldn't call it a direct swap.

Here's a thread where I talk about my swap.

Re: Stock Muncie SM465 and T221

I think 67-68 had the SM420. I think 69 was the first year for the SM465.

My 69 has the SM465 and the T-221.

Re: Stock Muncie SM465 and T221

My 69 originally had a three on the tree manual hooked to it's T221. It would constantly bind so I swapped in an SM465 that had been mated to a T221. As jbclassix stated, the SM465 T221 combo was offered and I, too, think it occurred in 69.

I am not sure where I got these T221 diagrams, but I hope they help others.

By the way, what's a "gear splitter" and what does it do?

Re: Stock Muncie SM465 and T221

I found a T221 model N 1 TCase mated to a SM465 that was supposedly in a 3/4 ton 67 chevy. See photo. Will this transfer case bolt right in to replace my T221 model N 3 Tcase that is in my 68 1/2 ton? Tags on the cases both have 1.94 gear ratio. the only difference i see is the model 3 vs 1 I have same SM465. Apparently the 67 also had a 327 v8 as I do. Here is the one i found, but i cant load photo of mine. thanks!!![ATTACH]1134447
