Junk yard motor LT1

Friends of my are converting a 1972 SWB to a modern Lt1. This is the latest LS iteration. LT1, Next-Gen Small-Block introduced on the seventh-generation Corvette Stingray, the LT1 6.2L. Cost was close to $10K including the transmission.
The motor arrived the other day and here is what they found. Some idiot removed the motor and cut the harness, right next to the plug. It arrived with the throttle pedal and the ecm and the tcm. It was all there. The only damage was the wiring harness. They are working on a rebate or replacement for the harness. Can't believe how stupid people are. Even if you work in a yard have some pride!

Re: Junk yard motor LT1

Of all the engines I've bought, I've never gotten a good undamaged harness..the worst was the 1st one I bought..main harness cut nearly in two and the plastic sheath put back over it and taped up..

Re: Junk yard motor LT1

My .02 is take the refund/rebate money and buy a aftermarket harness from one of the respected suppliers. I haven't done a LT1. I have done or helped with at least a dozen LS swaps. All had the harness and ECM/TCM supplied by the aftermarket harness builder.
You could send your ECM/TCM to your selected harness supplier and they can delete stuff as needed. Add stuff as needed. And add base tune that will get you to chassis dyno.
I can only guess that a stock C7 engine/trans wiring harness has many many wires you don't need.

Re: Junk yard motor LT1

Their plan was to send out the harness... for modification.
He is just attempting to recover some the extra charge for repair.
The motor was sold "with harness". Guess it didn't say functional harness..

BTW- GM sells Chevrolet Performance Engine Management System for his motor/trans combination. $3100.
Very expensive to play with the latest stuff.

Re: Junk yard motor LT1

I would contact Speartech and see how their LT1 ECM/TCM rework/base tune and harness would price out.
Not an LT1 but on a LS3 swap we did into a 73 Z28 with a TKO 600 we didn't need a TCM. If it was an auto you need the TCM/harness.
If you are keeping the LT1 stock the base tune should be really close.

Re: Junk yard motor LT1

I have a spare harness, pretty sure its pre 2017, different from 2017 + 4 wire fuel pressure sensor on fuel rail v.s. 3 wire... or the other way around.... other than that, I think the harness' are the same. Either way, its a simple procedure to depin and relocate terminals if you have the 4 sensor harness and relocate the wires to the ECU.

If needed, pm me

these harness are the exact as a LS.... just need to do research to make it a standalone.

Re: Junk yard motor LT1

Also have some delphi bulk head connectors left over from previous builds. Male, female, and mounting bracket
