06 3500 Express Van harness modified to standalone.

I figured I should start a thread to put all the pic's in one location.

I bought an 2006 3500 van with the 6 liter engine and took everything I wanted for my swap.

I keep as much on the harness as possible to limit the number of splices I would need.

Once it was all removed I had about 25lbs of wire



I started by unwrapping and using ty-raps to hold the harness in together to prevent it from unraveling making a nightmare mess. I just removed the wires that were not going to the PCM. I was surprised it did not take as long as I thought to remove almost 1/2 the wiring. Saving the wire until done with mod.

After about 3 hours I was down to this.




This is what came off.



I notice the pink and orange wires make a uturn about 6' down the harness from the PCM. (Orange are constant 12 volt and Pink are key on 12 volt)


The VAN harness loops back as there is a big connector that connects together.
This is the part of the mod I found hard to find information about. So I will document it here.

Frame has been cleaned of 5 gals of dried oil and grease and grime and painted with satin black paint.

I printed out the PCM pinouts from LT1.com
I watched his new videos on wire harness mods.
I started by removing the not needed wires from my harness. I label each wire, even if it was being deleted.
Just in case I make a mistake I can figure it out.

Have not added any missing wires, but did make notes on my printout.

I started on the pink wires from the terminal block.
I strip a wire so it could be inserted into a plug and then using a continuity tester I started figuring what went where.
I grouped the wires together, like all the pinks from the even fuel injectors, this will help it trouble shooting is needed later.

Next I tackled the two big connectors.
Again I cut one wire at a time and pulled it out.
Each wire go a label stating what pin it came from.
Some wires came out, others go deeper into the harness.

Some bad news, I looks like I through away the section of harness going to the gas pedal. I saved everything, but when cleaning up a few months back I tossed what I thought was not needed.

Plan it to hit the junk yards and fine what I need.

The vans are different than the pickups. In the vans all the wires go into the main harness, I cut mine in two as I could not push the wires out.
The trucks have a harness that looks like it would work better as it just pedal wires.

Good new, the connector was in a pile of wiring that I had tossed outside in a pile o parts.

Being 1/2 pack rat I was sure hoping to find it.
The throttle is figured out.

I got the odbc port wires wound up and ready for the next step.

I started pulling more tape and loom as I need to work out all the rear O2 sensor wires. I have like 2 wires going the other way, so will double check where they go before pulling loom. I've found the wires are stuff like they have become one. I have to really flex the harness to get them separated. Which means it takes a long time to pull a wire.

They look like they will move, but they feel more like one wire.


No problem routing the PCM to just about any where.
The goal will be under the dash drivers side.

Made some progress last night, pulling tape and loom from the passenger leg of the harness. I got all the secondary O2 sensor wires pulled out.
The Van harness has some extra wiring on that leg which included a 12 gauge power and ground wire. The ground goes to the drivers side of the harness and bolts to the back of the engine. Not sure where the power came from or went too, but its not needed. There were a few other wire that branched off near the air cleaner connection. I pulled those out too. Pulled one wire back to GRN -55 which shows as not used. But it was on the Van. Will de-pin that tonight.

I need to figure out what people are using for a fire wall access. I cut the stock grommet, plus it was like 3" in diameter. Would be nice to find something in the 1.5" range.

Also on the wires going to the starter are covered on a cloth foil tape and one the last foot had that tubular heat shielding.
