GM L31 crate engine discontinued?

In another thread someone was told by a Dealer that the L31 crate motor was no longer in production. Just wanted to see if anyone could verify or prove this wrong.

I am planning a swap into my Suburban very soon. I was waiting till I am ready to start the work to keep from it sitting around with the warranty running out sitting on floor. If it is true I guess I will go ahead and order one. But I have my doubts.

Summit Racing has them with free shipping...

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12530283

But I haven't heard squat of GM discontinuing them.

Re: GM L31 crate engine discontinued?

That is unfortunate if it is no longer in production. That would mean once the supply is sold, it will no longer be available. And the price may go up. I just checked on www.gmperformancemotor.com and it is still listed.

Re: GM L31 crate engine discontinued?

Summit still has them from gm, one has 2 bolt main and the other is 4 bolt main.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12681431/

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12681432/

The one that is discontinued is the factory replacement for 8600 gvw or heavier. The 4 bolt main motor will swap right in without issue (so will the 2 bolt). I believe the only difference is different valve seats on the 8600+ gvw engine.

Yes it seems as though the HT 383 E is advertised now by GM as the 96-99 truck replacement crate engine

Re: GM L31 crate engine discontinued?

I'm not sure what the worry is, there are only about a million cores to rebuild out there.

We are not talking about rebuilt engines though.
