TWO backup lights switches??
Being under lockdown has afforded me the opportunity to start sorting out all the little niggles remaining on my C10.
Today it was time to get the backup lights working. Studying the wiring diagram, I found that there are TWO switches that can activate the backup lights: On the transmission itself (which my 700R4 does not have); and Then there is this one labelled "BKNG.LP.SW"on the diagram. I have found the LGN and DGN wires for it, but where is it physically?

Re: TWO backup lights switches??
Under the dash, on top of the steering column near the firewall.

Re: TWO backup lights switches??
The dark green/light green wires are for the reverse lights (backing lamp switch). The switch could be on the top of the steering column under the dash.
The two purple wires are for an automatic's Neutral safety switch (not present in trucks originally containing a manual trans).

Re: TWO backup lights switches??
Ha, ha! I am doing the same thing and just found this very switch over the weekend. I got my tail lights working, dome light working, and backup lights (if they were installed) working. Now trying to sort stop lights and turn signals. Power all the way to the semicircular connection in the column so that is coming apart next as it appears it might have a few issues.
It's odd, when I hit the brake pedal the left front turn signal comes on. Have not checked to see if power is going to the rear as well.

Re: TWO backup lights switches??
OK, now it makes sense, thank you. My truck has a China made auto, tilt steering collumn without that switch.
I took the LG and DG wires to a dash mounted switch. So now I have manual backup lights.

Re: TWO backup lights switches??
To revive this thread.
I have the backup connector under my dash. Two dark green wires into one side and two light green on the other side. The dark green wires are hot when I turn on accessories or the ignition The light green wires go back to the backup lights. When I jumper the connector and turn on the key the backup lights come on. I have the SM465 manual so I do not have the column mounted switch. There is a switch that mounts in the transmission and there is a wire that connects to it (the harness is a brand new American Autowire). I do not know where that connector under the dash is supposed to go. The backup lights do not work even with the harness plugged into the transmission. Any suggestions? Thanks. |
