Thanks! I will get some pictures. I redid the headliner this weekend with some fabric from Hancock's. I'm not sure how long it will last. It had a crumbling fiber glass headliner board and it was hard to get the fabric to stick. If it comes loose I will break down and get one from LMC.

I'm not sure if a spare tire would fit or not. My exhaust already prevents me from using the factory spot (and the mount is long gone, and the tires are too big). I bet you could still get a 29 or 30 inch tire under there depending on which type of mechanism it has. I'll take some measurements next time I am under the truck.

Here is where I'm going with the interior. The door panels and trim were maroon. I repainted them with SEM Firethorn Red. The wood trim came from a Anaheim Suburban between the door panel and carpet insert at the bottom. I cut it shorter, re-stained it and put it at the top of the door panel.



I got the compass/temp mirror from another member here on the forum. It's still 95 degrees and it was almost night. I need to get air conditioning in this thing! It's too hot to drive it anywhere. I plan to go with Vintage Air when funds allow.

How did you go about doing this. What all did you do to hook it up. I am wanting to put one in my 85.

The mirror was pretty easy. There is a power wire, ground, two wires that go to a remote temperature probe, and finally a wire that goes to the reverse back up lights that turns off auto dimming when you put it in reverse. I don't have the reverse light wire hooked up yet and works fine without it. I mounted the temperature probe to the bottom of the core support behind the bumper. There are instructions here on the forum that I used for the wiring.

Took the truck to the beach yesterday. Had a great time and it ran good.

On the way home, things took a turn for the worst! Lost 3rd and 4th gear on the 700r4. The fluid smells burnt so I'm pretty sure it's fried. Wasn't even sure if we would make it home. Drove about 25 miles at night in second gear with the hazards on. It was a real bummer.

The transmission has less than a thousand miles since rebuild. However, the truck sat so long in pieces the receipt I have for the rebuild is 8 years old.

Well my 700r4 was definitely fried. Started calling for prices to get it rebuilt and was getting quotes in the neighborhood of $1,800.

A friend of mine had a TH400 mated to a NP208 that came out of K30 military truck that I could have for free. We had no idea if it was good or not. The fluid looked good so I decided what the hell, I might as well try it before spending a bunch of money. Well we dropped it in today and it works and shifts great!

For those who may be wondering: the drive shafts worked with the TH400, diesel torque converter works fine, cooling lines mated up fine, and the gas flex plate bolted up to the diesel converter. These are issues I had questions about before we started.

Also, I got some use out of my front tow hooks.

Thanks Mudman. It's actually got a TBI 350. I meant the TH400 came from a diesel K30 so I wasn't sure how it would work with the gas motor. I did a lot of reading on the forum and Google and there were some differing opinions on this.

Not too much new to add, but I did put in a factory clock and a three speed shift indicator since I no longer have overdrive. Also, I copied what others on here have done and put LED's in place of the dash light bulbs. That makes a huge difference! I could barely see the gauges at night before. Here is a pic:

Dash lights look great! Doesn't that make a heck of a difference? That's a bummer about your transmission, but great you got up and running again with little $$$ spent. I like the mirror, may have to snag that idea on a future project...

Santa came by here a little early with a new bezel and dash insert. I also ordered a Vintage Air kit today.

I have a little tip I wanted to share for loose A/C vents. I put an O-ring on each side and they are nice and smooth now.

Niiiiiice! I'll be curious to hear how you like the vintage air system. I've been looking at their stuff for potential A/C in my crew cab.
