Can a 12v Momentary switch operate an on/off accessory?

I am trying to use a stock style switch that is why I am asking this question. I have a push button Momentary 12 volt push button switch and I would really like to use it to operate an accessory to turn it on and off. Is there a relay out there that I can use that uses 12 V to turn it on off or ant wiring suggestions out there?

You need a latching relay. Here’s a link to one on Del City. No idea what your intended application is, so check the amperage and other relevant specs. Good luck!

For that latching relay you would need two momentary pushbutton switches. Instead of a momentary pushbutton, why don't you use a push on - push off switch. If you're switching a heavy load, use a relay in the circuit.

Ok looks like there is a few kinds of these. I have a push button on my dash that when you push it passes power thru it only when pushed. I have a small unit that turns on and off a module in my transmission. I need to turn it off when I tow. I want this to turn it on and off. 5 amps would be sufficient. I am not very familiar with how this should be wired. In a perfect world I would like to activate it and deactivate it with the same power source from the same button if that can possably happen.

I have a stock looking switch and need to retain it. That's why otherwise I would have no problem changing. If I can't do it I would rather abandon the project than have a non stock looking switch on my dash.

Will you be able to tell whether or not the module is on according to the feel while driving, or have some other way to tell, such as an indicator light? I think you may need to build a small circuit to switch the relay on for one push, and off for the next push.

The most simple way is once you push the button, the relay latches and stays activated, and you turn off power to the relay (turn the truck off) in order to unlatch it. Like this:

Is this to change the stall speed of your converter? If it is, if you are going to tow a trailer, wouldn't you want this on for the whole trip? Or would you be turning it on and off during the trip? If you want it on for the duration of trip, then to shut off when you shut the truck off, there is a simple way to do it.

I built a circuit to activate my daytime running lights that is momentarily triggered when I press the brake pedal and shift out of "park" and stays on until I either turn the headlights on or shut the truck off. If this will suit your situation, I can post a diagram.

Yes it is. I have been told that if I tow with the variable pitch on I will generate a lot of heat. This is why I'm adding a transmission temp gauge but I want to be able to shut it off on command. I will probably never tow but you never know. This is the switch I'm using. When I turn it side to side it will turn off/on my gear vendor Overdrive and when I push it in it will turn my variable pitch off/on. I will have an indicator in my dash replacing the unused temp light is in the gas gauge letting me know the position it's in.

this is the relay I bought on ebay. I hope it works. instead of switching between headlights it will switch between my "tow" light on the dash and the veriable pitch equipment.

A bit pricey, but it might do the trick. I see the relay is rated at 12 volts max and 300 Watts = 25 amps. Any idea what your variable pitch converter draws?

Our of all the info I have read up on all I can find is a thread that claims 5 amps. Nothing on gm paper though. It uses the same solenoid as a th400 kick down which I believe uses 5 amps. That's where I came up with the 5 amps.
