Thumbs up Little things

I've been working on some little things on my 64 SS Impala today.

The center console light in the rear and inside it and drivers side courtesy light where not working.
So I started on the inside console light and after several failed attempts I gave up and ordered a new one. The switch feel a part in my hand as I was trying to insert it after messing with it.
The rear light was unplugged because it would stay on all the time no matter what. So I got to checking and it was wired up to the hot wire straight. It's suppose to be wired to the courtesy lights. The courtesy ground wire was not wired to it so it took a little while to figure out what I had but I figured it out. Now it is.
The courtesy light has a plastic housing and it's a 2 wire hookup. Not the single like our trucks and later models.
So I went to O Reillys and bought a single wire one and gutted it. I cut the spring in half and placed it and the single wire in it. I then took a red spade connector with wire and inserted it in the ground side and now I have a new light fixture.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Little things

Good deal, Andy! You're right, taking care of the small stuff can be satisfying and very worthwhile.

I got all the lights fixed and working. I think I even found my problem with the lights coming on whenever they wanted to also last night after getting the console switch installed.
The interior lights would just come on at any time no matter what the car was doing, off/on driving sitting it didn't matter.
So after I got the console light in I started looking at why. I first thought it was the head light switch but after removing it they still came on. In 64 they ran a Black/Orange hot wire for everything so I started looking at it but couldn't find anything wrong so I decided to check the ground wires. There is a connection on the drivers side right above the E brake bracket where the door jam switch ground wire comes back up to this connector. I got to noticing everytime I messed with the connector the lights either came on are went off. So I started looking and sure enough there was a small area of the wire insulation gone right at the bracket. I taped it up and used some plastic covering to protect it. So far so good!

Re: Little things

I had a 64 Chevy. Candy apple black, dingle balls all around, pom-poms on all the antenna’s, cellophane seat covers and a little dog in the back with the head that went up and down.

Re: Little things

Andy, that reminded me of the new Grand Cherokee we bought in Feb. of 1995. Didn't take long for the left rear window to stop working. I don't recall all the details (too many years ago ) but it was intermittent and the dealership gave up. Somehow I managed to track it down to a wire with skinned insulation inside the pass. side B-pillar, IIRC.

Gives ya a good feeling to find & fix stuff like this!

Yes and now I'm waiting on the new trunk seal that I found was not right. They had put a universal seal in it. It would leak if left outside so that was ordered and should be here tomorrow depending on this weather they are calling for here.

That sounds like a song man! You need some more lyric's to go with it.

There Ain't Nothin' Wrong With the Radio

Sometimes she runs, sometimes she don't
More than once she's left me on the side of the road
The older she gets the slower we go
But there ain't nothin' wrong with the radio
She needs a carburetor, a set of plug wires
She's ridin' me around on four bald tires
The wipers don't work and the horn don't blow
But there ain't nothin' wrong with the radio
I've got sixteen speakers crossin' my back dash
A little bobbin' dog watchin' everybody pass
Dual antennas whippin' in the wind
Lord, there ain't a country station that I can't tune in
She ain't a Cadillac and she ain't a rolls
But there ain't nothin' wrong with the radio
I got stopped by a cop late last night
Out-of-date tags and no tail lights
He said I oughta run you in but I'm lettin' you go
Because there…
