Re: 1978 big ten build

also guys i was wondering if any one has ever had this problem, when ever my truck is running and i hit the brakes the front and side blinker come on, i dont know what could cause this, could it be a bad ground or just bad wiring? if anyone could post a picture of a wiring diagram for a 1978, it would help alot!

Re: 1978 big ten build

The rear harness plug where it goes thru the frame crossmember almost at the back of the truck, say 3/4's of the way back on the drivers side will corrode and jump to other terminals, usually groung, pull the plug apart and clean it or jump wire out from one side of the plug to the other side of plug, most common spot to corrode and cause problems.

Re: 1978 big ten build

Well got the new horn installed today and replaced the turn signal flasher and hazard flasher, cleaned all grounds fix all the jerry riged wiring we could see and found out my battery is bad, after all that my turn signals are still messed up when the lights are on my turn signals don't flash, when I hit the brakes with my turn signal on it goes solid and when I turn the left or right blinker on all the lights flash, any one have any ideas what's going on?

Re: 1978 big ten build

sounds like something is crossed up or something....Check the firewall connections and putt the harness off to see if any gunk is connecting them...

Re: 1978 big ten build

So you checked the plug 3/4's of the way down the frame, almost "always" is there.

Drivers side, or left side almost all the way at the back, big plug goes thru the frame, half on each side of frame crossmember.

Re: 1978 big ten build

Well thought I fixed it last night everything was working, tested it again and now my right backup light does not work and I don't have any brake lights, im at the point now if I didnt love this truck she would be in the grave yard. I'm starting to think that the right side reverse socket it shorting out when ever you try to use it it just sparks and shorts all the other lights, it looks like its going to be another one of those night.....

Re: 1978 big ten build

I like the rim style but tend to go towards polished, if I am paying I want just a bit if bling, black just seems too stock looking to me, but that's me.

Re: 1978 big ten build

Ya man I like the wheels on there now but those would match my paint and there cheap. Also just got off the phone with safelite auto glass they quoted me $320 for glass trim and mobile services so I gave them all my info and scheduled an appointment, not only did they say the charge was $360 but they got my address wrong even though a corrected them twice!!!! I finally gave up after being on hold for 20 minutes. Tomorrow I'm going to call and try to fix it if not I'll cancel and try to find a local mobile unit where you can talk to the actuall shop!!!!
