454 0 oil pressure
Fired my panel up this morning.0 oil pressure. Checked line and no oil with motor running. Let motor idle minute or so and lifters started ticking. So ready pretty close. Changed filter ,still 0.
Only two things left that I can think of. Pickup plugged, but motor fairly new and no sludge month ago when I reworked heads and swapped cams. Pump broke, some how? Ideas?

Re: 454 0 oil pressure
What kind of gauge is it, mechanical or electric? That might be worth a look.

Auto meter mech. Thought that till lifters started ticking.
Have taken distributo out.dropped in another w/o gear. When rotating you feel a catch ,but most of the time no resisance. Guessing I broke the pump. Now how you do that I am not sure. But then I can break anything. COL

Re: 454 0 oil pressure
Drain the oil so you can look inside the pan.
Good chance the pick up fell off the pump. A tiny penlight flashlight will help see inside. |

Nope pickup is holding pan back from coming off. About 100% sure broke one of gears in pump or pin holding it.

Re: 454 0 oil pressure
Pull Distributor and use your pre-oiler tool and see if you can turn the oil pump with the oil gauge disconnected....Any oil ?

Re: 454 0 oil pressure
As I said once lifters started ticking there was no question,I had no oil flow. I did put distributor w/o gear and rotated it.
Pan off .Winner is broke top off pump shaft. thinking pos plastic sleeve broke and shaft got cockeyed and sheared notch sides off.

Re: 454 0 oil pressure
provide a pic of what you find, just curious of exactly what the shaft/pump /plastic pos items look like when it breaks....maybe since you have the pan off check the bearings to see if any damage has been done...oh yea, provide pics of the bearings to, so we all can see if its damaged.

Re: 454 0 oil pressure
Will do pump pic later. As for bearings. Pulled three rods and two mains. All looked like new. Got to love mechanical gauges, they cost too much to not check them.LOL
Did install new rear seal while there ,just for the warm fuzzy feeling.
