Re: Front license plate mount

Cap,
I'll 166th the license plate bracket. Thinner or not, it's light years better than what's available now. Understand the workload issue. Seems I'm always working 7 days a week, more often than not. Been waiting 30 yrs. Can wait a little longer.

Re: Front license plate mount

Count me in for one. Now all I need is the front plate to put on it. I can buy reproduction metal plates if I don't live in California, but I need a California plate. Don't you just love progress....

Re: Front license plate mount

Thanks for the encouragement guys

I'll see what I can do about making some progress on these.

A question.......what would you guys prefer. A metal to metal fit, or a rubber seal between the license plate bracket and the bumper?

lOOKS GREAT, I VOTE FOR THE SEAL, AND STAINLESS STEEL MIGHT BE NICE FOR A CHROME BUMPER. PAINTED WORKS GREAT FOR A PAINTED BUMPER. KIETH

Re: Front license plate mount

I took some time today to take mine off and show you what i did for mine on my 64 gmc. I found this old mopar tag bracket cut and bent over the mounts. Then i removed the side edges that kind of held the tag from moving side to side. Any way heres a few pics of mine.

Re: Front license plate mount

No pics, but I just made a couple brackets, about 1" wide by 3" long, drilled holes for plates on one end, bumper on the other, and bent them to make the plate hang vertical.

Couple coats of black paint, and it looks pretty good

A seal between the bumper and bracket...no scratches.

Re: Front license plate mount

No I still have not had time with working 80 hrs a week, every week. I did get some more laser cut parts last summer, but no time to do anything with them.

Yes a rubber seal is part of the plan..

Stainless would be doable but would greatly increase the price. I don't have a CNC mill for making them out of billet aluminum, so having someone else make them would add even more cost to making them. Plus everyone I know with CNC machines is rediculously busy making money with them. That makes it hard to get good deals on small runs.

Re: Front license plate mount

Old thread, but I was wondering if you have a contour template for the 60-62 bumper?
I'm thinking of making some 60-62 frame horn reinforcements. Something you could bolt or weld to your existing frame horns. It would fit on the inside of the frame for correct alignment, and would be a option for those whose existing 60-62 horns are in bad shape.

Re: Front license plate mount

Is the '60-'62 bumper a different contour than a '63-'66 bumper? I thought the contour is the same.

I can't compete with a $5 piece of plastic from China.

Yes, the contour is a little different.
I think ron posted a sketch of them overlaid. I'll see if I can find the pic.
