jimmy top removal

Bought my '79 jimmy a couple months back from original owner.all stock. Top has never been removed. I'll be removing it in the summer for sure. Had a lot of people tell me not to "it will leak" " dont do it"
Are there any tricks to removing it without damaging the seal? Is leakage a real problem with these vehicles?

Lots pull the tops off. Some leak, some don't. If you don't rip the seal at the back of the cab it shouldn't leak when you put it on. If it tears, get a new seal. Just take it easy pulling it off the first time. Don't forget the hidden bolts to the top in the corners.

That's what a blazer in made for, taking the top off.

My dad got my blazer new in 78 and never took the top off, but you know when I got it, it was caming off 25 years later. I have not had any problom with it. You will be good!!
