removing turn signal switch

72 GMC pickup. My switch is cracked where the turn signal arm attaches so the screw won't tighten. I unscrewed the 3 big screws but something's keeping it from coming out, like maybe the emergency flasher switch. First time to deal with this, so what do I do?

Re: removing turn signal switch

next step requires a steering wheel puller.. 90 percent sure.. on my 73 that was the procedure.. i built a puller out of a piece of flat stock.. just drilled 3 holes and ran screws through them.. as i screwed those in, it forced the wheel toward me.. you can borrow a real puller at autozone

Re: removing turn signal switch

I assume you have the str. wheel off if you have removed the 3 screws. If it has the original red 4 way switch you push it in. You need to relese the wires from under the dash & take them out of the connector. If it has a replace ment switch with the black round 4 way you remove the screw in the center of the knob.
I have repaired a lot of those with super glue.

Re: removing turn signal switch

If you have the original turn signal switch you should be able to remove a screw holding the hazard flasher knob through the end of the knob.
I also had a hard time removing and installing the new one. Maybe there's a better way, but I just wiggled and crammed until it went in place.

Re: removing turn signal switch

Thanx guys. I didn't know how to get the hazard lights had a screw in the end to remove it, and I didn't want to break it.
