Is this hatch worth saving?

This was part of a group purchase yesterday and. Maybe pull hardware/glass and scrap the fiberglass.

Re: Is this hatch worth saving?

I was thinking something could be done to save it. New to this so not sure when to draw the line.

Re: Is this hatch worth saving?

Mine was in similar shape and i separated the two halves and repaired it from the inside. It's not hard to fix but if you don't need it it's probably not worth your effort.

Re: Is this hatch worth saving?

How did you separate it? Is there a thread on here you followed.

Re: Is this hatch worth saving?

Didn't follow any thread. Just went out and did it. Heat gun and a 2" metal putty knife is what I used to separate it. Just heat up the seam and scrape out the adhesive. It's not a quick process. I didn't time it but if memory serves me right it took a couple hours.

Re: Is this hatch worth saving?

The hatch on my top is also cracked, but not as bad. I think I'll learn on the one in this thread. Then fix the other as well. When you glued it back together did you use a specific adhesive?

Re: Is this hatch worth saving?

I don't remember the exact adhesive I used. It was a general construction adhesive specified for fiberglass. I had to fix a lot on my top as well, actually ended up fiberglassing the whole top of it to fix the sags (double wall top). Didn't take many pictures of the process.

Re: Is this hatch worth saving?

Fixing from the inside is the only way to restore the structural integrity of the hatch.

Before you toss it in the trash, keep one thing in mind. In a couple of years when these hatches are even rarer and the value of a Blazer in general increases, a hatch in this condition will be sought after. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Agree.

This Blazer has a $57k asking price - here's the "hatch" you get for that...

It's listed on ebay right now. I can't recall if any additional hatch pics but maybe the seller can send some detailed ones.

Re: Is this hatch worth saving?

The full glass hatch is kinda cool but it just doesn't look right with the small side windows...... Proportions are just off..... If you modified the top so the side glass took up almost the whole side starting from the bed rail it might look like it was meant to be. Kinda like the defender 90s customized by himalaya.
