Blazed Bed Patch Panel

Does anyone know where to get a correct bed patch panel for my '69 blazer? The patch panel from LMC doesn't line up. It seems the grooves in the patch panel aren't deep enough. Would my best bet be cutting a panel out of a blazer from a junkyard and using that?

Has anyone else had this problem with?

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

You're best bet would be to find a truck bed floor to cut. It was the same as a Blazer in most areas if you're just doing patches.

The new floor patch panels do not match the old floors. You may be able to put the new one in a brake and fix it to match yours, but I've never tried.

Thank, I don't know why LMC advertises them as a patch panel for the truck when it is really just a patch panel for the bed they sell.

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

I just picked up an entire floor cut into 6 sections for exactly that reason. I have it ratholed away just in case I need some patches.

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

I had the same issue with the LMC part. It was 38-9628 and was advertised as fitting the 69-72 Blazer. I purchased mine back in early 2014 and squirreled it away in the garage loft waiting for the day that I needed it.

Well....low and behold....the darned thing has the wrong contours to it, making it useless. I guess shame on me for trusting LMC. I just emailed their customer service to see if they will refund my money. I have seen many posts such as this one complaining about the incorrect tooling used to make the bed floor patches.

Anyone know is other years trucks (Blazer, C-10, etc) will have the same bed floor bends and contours?

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

I used a Tri Mark panel and it fit perfectly. All I had to do was cut the hole for the fuel filler tube.

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

hemi43, did you use a GoodMark or TriPlus floor panel? I've been looking for one that would line up correctly. Haven't heard of Trimark?? Thanks

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

hemi43,
How did the bed floor countours line up? The ones from LMC had too sharp of a bend from the manufacturing process, whereas the OEM bends were more soft or curved.

I had to line up the LMC and OEM contours in a photo and emailed them to LMC to show them their "bad part". I'm returning the LMC patch panel and still am searching for a quality part that has the dead-on correct contoured bends.

I'd love to see how your OEM bed mated up to the patch.

Hemi43, I and others would appreciate details on ordering the floor repair panel. That is exactly what I need to replace on mine. I have looked and haven't found it yet. thanks

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

I returned the aftermarket panel to LMC without any issues. Now I am on the prowl for some used bed floors to hack up.

All, I think this might be it... It says for a truck but the measurements are right on first quick pass. Glad LMC took it back for you.

Would the ribs in a newer bed floor be the same as a 67-72 bed floor?

I have an email and voicemail message into the folks in the link asking that very same question. When I hear I will update this thread. Probably wouldn't hurt if others asked them as well. thanks

I live in Canada, so I may be of no help.
I bought mine from Bill's trucks in Courtice Ontario. All the panels I got from him fit perfectly. The aftermarket has come a long way from all the crap we used to get 20 years ago.

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

hemi43, thanks for the response. Yes I found a web site for Bills Trucks. From looking at their catalog I suspect it is their part #27-5095. Hell at least it has "Blazer" in the description. I will call them and verify.

http://www.billstruckshop.com/Catalo...5%20Master.pdf

Yeah I remember doing the same thing to a previous blazer I owned years ago and all I could do then was hand my wallet and first born to the body shop guy. He kept the money and gave me the kid back...

A lot better now.

Thanks again.

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

I'm very fortunate to live 5 minutes away from Bill's Trucks. It's one of the main reasons I decide to build this Blazer because I wanted a quick build. Having all the parts I need so close to home is sooooo nice ! I also have a soft spot for the early Plymouth Traildusters, but it would have been 10 times the cost and hassle to build one.

Here is the panel from summit racing on ebay. The part is $232.99 with free shipping plus $20 off with the code cmotors91, this is the cheapest I could find it.

Ideally I would need from the tailgate all the way up to about 2 inches past the start of the wheel well. But I could get away with from the tailgate to about 6 inches forward and repair the light surface rust on the rest. From 6 inches form the tailgate end forward is totally rusted out.

Yes I saw that part on another site as well. It doesn't show compatibility with the blazer just with trucks. I would guess that the rib pattern is the same (one would think) but I don't want to order the part without verification. If you or anyone has first hand knowledge it will fit and the ribs match up I would buy it today.

I talked to Bill at Bills trucks and he said he would look for a supplier in the states but I haven't heard back yet.

Thanks

Re: Blazed Bed Patch Panel

Is anyone able to confirm wether the rib pattern is the same in most gm trucks? Wondering if at least the 67-72 matches the rib pattern in the 73-87 beds

I asked IronCanine about it in his build thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=645076&page=2 It's a modified shortbed truck floor patch, basically just needs the fuel filler holes put in it to work on a Blazer.

Thanks a lot for the information. Much appreciated. I had pretty much decided to go for it and order up. I never heard back from Bill at Bills trucks.
