Plow size & weight on K10

I have a 72 K10 longbed, TH350 4x4 with 3.73's and 32" tires. Going to put a plow on it and curious whether it can handle an 8 foot plow like the Western Pro-Plow? Some seem to feel like a 1/2 ton should have a 7' 6" instead of an 8' plow.

The Pro-Plow is 650 lbs in a 7'6" and 670 in an 8', so I assume the difference is how much snow you are pushing, not the weight of the plow itself?

6 inches probably wont make a difference..........

its the weight on the front end and the extra wear and tear that must be considered.

also dont approach snow at hi speed and dont ram large piles of snow

and driving with that extra load on the front end will be a bit of a problem on pot holed roads and black ice or other slippery conditions will compel you to drive slower and brake sooner.

Thanks Mike. This is for use on my personal property. I expect to take it easy on the truck. One of the reasons I want to go 8 foot is that I plan on spending quite a bit on the plow, about 6k, and from what I understand 8 foot has a lot more resale potential. I may eventually get a tractor and no longer need the plow.

My K5 has an 8 1/2' Meyer hanging off the front. It's a snow pushin' son of a gun. No worries, these are tough old trucks.

Mine is a 72 K10 longbed, TH350, 4x4, 3.08 gears, 30" tall BFGs, and an 8' Western Pro (Unimount with Ultramount adapter). I usually use low range. I added a third leaf to the front suspension and I run 600-700lb of ballast in the box. Works great! My limiter is traction, but I have tire cables to solve this.

The 8' plow barely covers the width of the truck with the blade angled, so I wouldn't use a 7.5' without adding wings to avoid busting your own track.

Great, thanks guys. I went with an 8" Western Pro Plow, sitting on my truck now just waiting for some snow!

Sorry, I will get to it! I have a five month old and a four year old, I don't get around to anything these days. The freaking pets are lucky if they get fed!
