57 Chevy Truck

Has anyone done a 235 I6 to a 307 V8 swap? Is this a reasonable process, are there issues with doing this? Thanks for sharing!

Re: 57 Chevy Truck

Ive done several of them with 350 engines on that era of trucks. Its a very easy swap as the small block v-8 was an option on that model. It will be easier to do a search for the procedure, as there has been many posts on this subject. A throttle kit & a front engine mount kit are available from the specialty supplyers Your 307 mounts the same as the other small block engines.

Re: 57 Chevy Truck

If you are keeping the stick transmission that is in the truck you will need a cast iron V8 bellhousing and V8 flywheel and a pilot bushing.

V8 swaps using a small block Chev V8 used to be so common on these trucks that guy could drive one in the shop in the morning with the six and drive it out finished with the V8 in the afternoon if they had all the needed pieces on hand.

If the truck runs now, taking it and pressure washing the engine compartment and anything you can reach to get grease, oil and dirt off speeds the job up a lot if you want to do a quick turn around on it.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
