Mini-Spool for stock '50 3100 axle?

Before ya'll get out the pitchforks and torches, hear me out...

I've got a stock 1950 Chevy 3100 chassis and drive train that has been made into a yard vehicle. No body, just a bench seat and home built flat bed. I take it through some pretty rough terrain and realized the other day I would love a locked rear axle. I know it's a long shot, but does anyone make a cheap mini-spool for the stock torque tube style rear differential? I haven't pulled it apart, but I believe it should have 17 spline axles? I don't know if I've got it in me to just booger a perfectly good differential full of welds.

A guy can dream though can't he? Sure wish I hadn't scrapped that spare axle I had last year...

Well some guys still weld the spiders to lock the rear end on rigs. I'm not a fan of dong it but on that one I don't think it would be out of line to do it.

i'm with mr48 on this, just weld it. plan on some wheel hop on pavement.
when i was in high school way back when... a local farmer turned his tf into a ditch mower with a belly mower of a pto. he also had another 3 speed mounted behind the trans for extreme high gearing/low speeds. he also shortened the frame. old school ditch mowing with stump pulling power

Re: Mini-Spool for stock '50 3100 axle?

Dirt track racers and some off road guys have welded the spiders for years on end and while it doesn't work too well driving around town on asphalt it just turns the rear end into a big gocart axle as far as function goes.

Some of the guys on the FB BMW E 39 group I hang out on a bit run welded spiders on the street which doesn't seem too bright but it seems to work for them.
