Rare 4X4?

Can anyone give a rough idea how rare this 1968 GMC 4X4 Suburban might be? I think it looks like a 3/4 ton? It's for sale locally...."rare 3 door!!" lol.

Re: Rare 4X4?

The 68 K20 Suburbans and Panels are the lowest production trucks in the 67-72 line up, as for the GMC versions I haven't seen any good numbers on them.

The GMC looks like a solid truck, and it is a K20 BTW.
Lock ring wheels, and big D-44 closed knuckle.

Re: Rare 4X4?

As my old dog used to say it looks a little "ruff" but It still looks pretty solid.

Vector it pretty well cleared up that end of the "rare" part as the production numbers weren't that high to begin with. From what I've seen lately any time a guy puts "rare" at the heading of a for sale add it means that he thinks that it's worth about twice to three times what the similar ones in that condition have been going for.

It could be a neat rig that a guy could tow his toys with and haul his family in at the same time.

Seller probably doesn't know that they were all 3-doors for this generation.

Re: Rare 4X4?

i think Rick is looking for 2000.00 for this but he has to clear out all his cars as the county is after him....

So depending on how many guys want to buy a project you may be in good position to make a cash offer.

Of course the LEAST expensive thing on a project like this is the initial purchase price

3 seats and a stick....may have been an oilfield crew truck new

Run the serial number with George Zapora at GM vintage and he can give you the build sheet and the original selling dealer

Re: Rare 4X4?

It's actually looking pretty good to me in these pictures.
Considering that the original seat covers are still there, and from what I can see it looks like it is mostly complete. Along with the original headliner, to which tells me this thing hasn't been abused.

Aside from the primer grey, I don't see much wrong with the body especially where it's located with the harsh winters. Typical rot areas don't look bad, and the tail section is all easily fixed.

Heck, my Suburban looked just like this before I tore it down for restoration and I drove it everywhere.

You should go buy it

Re: Rare 4X4?

I've looked at your ad....getting it up here is the kicker though.
I looked at the one I posted above and walked from it; $1200 was steep for it.

Re: Rare 4X4?

Looked OK to me for that price. I don`t think I`ve ever seen a 3/4 ton 4X4 GMC. I like the panel truck next to it.

Re: Rare 4X4?

Hey Tony
There were only about 300 3/4 ton chevys in 68. Since there are no production numbers for GMC, People have said that gmc production numbers are around half. That makes it pretty low production.
