New drum spindles?

I’m starting a frame-off resto of my ‘68 C10 and would like to keep the factory drum brakes on the front. The bottom of my spindles have some wear where they rest on the inside bearing race. I’ve had a vehicle in the past that had this type of wear and I was not able to align it well until I replaced the spindles. So, anybody know a source for new drum spindles? I can’t seem to find anything searching here or other sites.

Re: New drum spindles?

I see a problem coming. Most of the suppliers are no longer caring parts that have to deal with Drum brakes I see it more with C20's Some of them drum you have to knock out the rear studs. It dose not hurt your truck to find a 1971-72 disc brake set up.Trust me If you don't know how to work with drum brakes. An you take it to a shop that has not touched drum brakes it will cost you a lot of money.Best thing if you go down this road Buy 2 and let me say this 1 more time Buy 2 of everything 2 sets of rear drums 2 sets of front drums and 4 sets of backing plates the spring Kits bearings and races all the seals and 1-3 sets of them spider anti nut back out peace for the rear drums and best off buy a extra set of spicier axle's.Cus in the coming years you bake something you wont find it that's why people up date.I have a 1968 longhorn bought it back in 1991 its been sitting for that amount of time.I would like to converting it over to front disc brakes cus it takes me a hell of a lesser time to change my brakes

Re: New drum spindles?

Contact Grumpy, he knows of a place close to him that has a yard with trucks. I found a set through a member and was gifted a set.

If your doing a frame off keeping it factory there is plenty of parts out there, you have to hunt. Give it time...you will find the necessary parts out there. I still struggle to find stuff right when I need it but its available.

Do not rely on the chain stores with kids helping, they just know computers. This place is a mecca of knowledge with lots of helpful folks out there.

Re: New drum spindles?

Contact TKorinek in Mesa AZ. He is on the parts boards.

He can get you whatever you need for the spindles. Like said above there are systems that are slowly getting phased out. I have a 72 1 ton dually axle, have not found anything for the brake system that I need. Changing it to a 14 bolt.

Re: New drum spindles?

I just bought everything I need for my K-10's drum brakes from Rock Auto, O'Reilly, and a local Bumper-to-Bumper, from the drums to the Master Cylinder.

If you are doing a restoration, go original (that is what the term means, after all).

Re: New drum spindles?

I'd really like a pair of new ones. I can't find them on RockAuto or anywhere else. If you find some, send me a link. At the moment I'm thinking they must not exist.

Re: New drum spindles?

I just measured the diameter on these spindles: both worn to 1.372", down from 1.375" originally. Is this enough to cause an issue with alignment, etc. on these pickups?
