Debated on the best way to paint my new bed with a metal floor- l don’t have a big rotisserie. I decided to try it in 3 steps. Laid the bedsides on sawhorses and sprayed the exterior (including the lip that rolls inside- sorry, no pic). Then l painted the floor by its self. I then carefully assembled everything and sprayed the inside and all of the header panel. Unmasked it today and was happy with the results- failed to take a pic of the finished product.

Looks really good! I am getting ready to spray my bed as well. I was leaning toward leaving the floor in place and carefully padding the header panel end and standing the bed on end to paint the bed floor and inner bed sides. Your method seems a little more controlled and probably worth the little bit of extra work disassembling and reassembling.

In hind sight, would you do it differently? I'm liking your method, as I recently tubbed my bed 3.5" per side and would like to hit the bottom of the welded in panels with a flapper disc, epoxy prime, filler, sand prime and shoot color. I think that I would be happier with the end result if I completely disassembled the bed.

PPG- base/clear.

I’m glad l did it this way so l could lay the clear on heavier on the bedsides since they were laying on sawhorses ( l sometimes struggle with runs when everything is in a vertical position). The only real downside that l can see is l couldn’t do the short welds at the rear. I think you could paint an assembled bed this way, but it sure was nice spraying the floor by itself

When is your next opening? I have mine ready for paint. I could disassemble it at your place, and when your finished we could bubble wrap the parts for assembly back at my place.

BTW Tigger, if you noticed the wheels on my dolly, there is a set of scaffolding somewhere missing its casters.

What’s the speed rating on your caster wheels? Maybe you could just pull it up here?
