Who is the source for the ultimate NP205

I found JB conversions
http://www.jbconversions.com/index2.php?pc=3

And was wondering if anybody here has had any experience with them? I want the absolute best NP205 that money can buy.
It will be going on a complete frame off restoration it will reside behind a SBC and a NV4500 tranny. Engine will be around 450hp tires size will be 33-35" and I want something that will last 100k mi and be able to withstand some burn outs and fish tailing without breaking. The finished truck won't see any rock crawling or mud bogging mostly dirt roads and the occasional muddy cornfield.

This will be a "retirement" truck for me. I will eventually be retiring out of the country and won't have access to parts so 100% 100k mi reliability are of paramount importance to me. I need a transfer case that will meet the above criteria.

Are there any downsides to this T case?

other than the cost..... thats insane! stock NP205's can get well over 100k plus out of them with no problem. It happens everyday.

You can have one rebuilt with some good internal parts and 1410 yokes for way less than one of those and last just as long as the rest of the drivetrain. If your doing burnouts and such (in a 4wd?) i'd be worried about the trans and what rear end your going to be using.

Re: Who is the source for the ultimate NP205

the JB conversion isnt really any stronger or more durable than a regular 205. the case itself may be marginally stronger, but the real advantage comes from the lower low range. not to mention, to use the JB kit, you have to have a 205 to supply the rest of the geartrain outside of the pieces the kit replaces. or buy all the little bits and pieces separately. or pony up 3 large for the entire "crate" t-case. not really worth it for a truck with plenty of power and a granny low trans. unless you need that extra 50% added gear reduction. judging from your planned usage you will not.

so, given your description, a regular GM round pattern 205 is more than enough. freshen it up and run the correct oil and it will last forever.

spending a lot of money on the JB case doesnt make it the best money can buy. it just makes it the most expensive.

so, given what you are asking of it, if you don't want to build it yourself, i would look here

http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/Com...nsferCases.htm

you will get essentially a brand new 205, as you would from JB, without the added cost of the LoMax kit. these guys are great to deal with and they know their stuff on gm drivetrains. so for several hundred less than lomax kit, you will have the appropriate case to run behind the trans you want and it should outlast most of the rest of the truck.

i am pretty sure ORD is a JB dealer as well, and can help you out if you want the LoMax anyhow.

If I was out of country I would want to stay with OEM parts, which have been proving their strength for over 40 years. That's why those are the transfer cases people consider the best. I have yet to own one that needed repairs

find one that has been sitting in the dirt for ten years. drain the water out, add some oil and put it in. just as good.
