2004 Fuel filter Location? Sorry, Found the Answer

I've done several searches on the location of the fuel filter for a 2004 5.3 Ex Cab 4x4 Silverado. Nothing specific comes up. Is there an online guide here to finding this? Thanks, LBJ

Well, I went to You Tube for the answer and found it. It's almost the same as the 91 GMC I had - on the chassis left side. Ha

Hi David, Oh crap, now I have to go out and see! I was about to go down to the auto store and buy one for the chassis. Thanks for the tip. LBJ

David, Just checked it. There is not a filter on the left chassis. So, I guess it's in the tank. Crap! Thanks for giving me the tip though. What is involved on getting to the tank pump and filter? Doesn't sound like a job to do at home.

They dont normally get changed till the pump goes out on a silverado its easlier to pull or lift the bed to get to the tank makr sure to use a good dephi or ac delco brand pump unit the aftermarkets dont hold up well if u do it

Re: 2004 Fuel filter Location? Sorry, Found the Answer

David, looks like I will skip it till the pump fails. I was first looking to change the filter to see if it would clear up a small miss at idle. Engine runs great overall. A couple of months ago I changed the spark plugs after 13 years and 90K miles. For some reason, the miss started then or maybe I never noticed it all along. Not a big problem, certainly not enough to pull the pump! haha. I changed the anti-freeze for the first time as well with the plugs. That Vortec 5.3 really runs strong. I wish I had the same engine in my 1977 Bonanza. Thanks. LBJ

ls swap into the 77....go for it...
I had 285k on my 99 5.3.....still had factory plugs in it when I sold it....never touched the engine except for a water pump...original fuel pump went out around 170k....these LS engines are hard to beat...

Re: 2004 Fuel filter Location? Sorry, Found the Answer

Greg, yes thought of doing that several times. But my 77 still runs pretty good for 95K miles! What it needs more than anything is complete refurbishing of the heads and new oil seals on all block locations. Or maybe brand new aluminum heads ready to bolt on. The 295HP Votec 5.3 would be TWICE the HP of the 350 I have! Probably kill myself in it!
