Upper rad hose for sbc with serpentine belt.

My apologies if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find the info when I searched.

So the upper rad hose didn't fit right on my 350 with a 92 Sonoma 4.3 accessory group. The hose was pushed tight against the alternator and very close to the fan. Figured there had to be a better way, so started digging through memory and catalogs. I came up with this:

Thermostat housing for 84 G20 w/350

http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....045842&jsn=538

AND,

Upper rad hose for 67 Firebird w/400

http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....402805&jsn=694

Truly plug and play. NO mods required and lots of clearance.

Installed pic ( Please forgive all the fugly, making it work first. Pretty comes later. ) :

Looks nice. Would a plain vertical water neck also work?

Thanks. A plain vertical neck probably won't fit with a 14" air cleaner. The van water neck is offset forward enough to clear.

My accessories came off an early nineties Camaro, and I used the factory 1969 C10 SBC upper radiator hose. The F body serpentine system positions the alternator lower on the engine.

It all fits perfect, including the crank pulley. YMMV however, since most people say the crank pulley's different. If you have doubts, take the crank pulley from the same year sbc to be safe. Make sure you take ALL the hardware, braces, water pump, and fan too. Just swap your fitting onto the p/s pump and you can use that too.

Really really easy. Anything else just ask...

My truck came setup like this. The brackets were cut and pulleys cracked so it had to be replaced. Old 4.3 stuff is dirt cheap and everywhere...

That's great info. Having the same issue. My real problem has been the lower radiator hose on the GM serpentine kit on my 72 350 sbc. Anybody have a part number or thoughts?

I used the metal bendable kind and it worked out great on one truck. I cannot remember what I used on my other truck. But it is stock rubber I think.

Yeah, I have been looking at all options. I purchased the R&D radiator out of Georgia. Its all aluminum so I removed the lower radiator neck and angled it so it would give me better clearance over the frame. Looking at early 90's truck LR hoses, and cut in a SS coupling.

I just am really hoping somebody has a manufactures molded hose out there.

Can you post a pic of your lower rad neck and its diameter? If it's 1.75"( stock size ) and angled up same as stock, then a stock hose for an AC truck ( ACDelco 24035L ) will fit with about 1.5" cut off the rad end. This is what I'm using.

If the neck is 1.5" and straight ( 73-87 style ) then you need a 73 hose. My truck had this when I got it.

Hope that helps.

Re: Upper rad hose for sbc with serpentine belt.

Thanks for the info! This saved a ton of time for me. Ordered the water neck and hoses from RockAuto. Water neck was in a box with the correct info, but the neck was no where close to being the correct part. Credit issued, ordered it off Amazon. Part was correct and is now bolted on.
