221 Mounts

Read in another thread here awhile back that the new poly mounting bushings make an already noisy case even louder. Dug around my garage last week and found some of the original rubber ones that I want to try, as I've only run this truck with the new aftermarket ones (figured they were better). Trouble is they are two different thicknesses and I can't remember what goes where. I'll try to post some pictures if I can, any help would be appreciated.

Re: 221 Mounts

I haven’t messed with a 221 in good while, but I’m betting someone here has. I’ll bump this back up for you.

Thanks for the bump 57. I know there are a lot of us old dinosaurs out here still running Rockwells. Does this mean everyone else is also using the new poly bushings? I think it's been a long time since the rubber ones were available, so maybe I have the only set that has not gone back to nature.
Any and all input appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

Re: 221 Mounts

Hey short3/4, we also used the poly mounts for ours. But we were able to get the rubber mounts (some) from classic auto. But they are quite pricey. As for the way there are mounted I can't remember. Maybe there website had a diagram of how they are mounted. If I wasn't an old dinosaur myself I would try to post the link to there website. But these are the ones we got.Name: 20200508_212904.jpg

Re: 221 Mounts

I just did this. I’ll check to make sure, but I believe it was thin on top and thick on the bottom. I’ll try and get a pic tomorrow.

Re: 221 Mounts

Sorry for the delay.
I went to the poly bushings, as it was all I found at the time. The picture is not great since it's all installed, but I went: bracket to the frame, thin bushing, bracket to the t-case, bottom bushing seat bracket (not sure what to call that piece), thick bushing, frame.

Re: 221 Mounts

Thanks all.
The new ones are listed as for bottom, and they look like the thick ones. Makes sense that the thick ones would carry the weight and the thin would just help locate, so that's what I'll try. Good to know they are still available, even if a little pricey.
As soon as I actually get around to doing this will report on if it really helps with the noise.
