Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van

VCVC.org is a good site as well. Plenty of good writeups on mII disc brake swaps.

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van

thanks guys, I am registered on vintage vans, have not yet been approved for VCVC yet.
we are actually trying to figure out what the rear axle is as well. It's a 10 bolt but 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern. It has 11" drums. Well one anyway. Trying to find parts for it. Ordered a G10 drum thinking it was from the half ton but it was too small.
B body Chevy's had 11" brakes on a 10 bolt so I ordered a Caprice drum, it comes in tomorrow. We will see...

Maybe not all, but two different Caprice's I had were 5x5 bolt pattern-hopefully the one you ordered works. If not, I have used Oreilly's website in the past to get drum/disc specs when trying to find something not original to my application. Once you enter year/make/model then select the part, you can click a "product details" tab to get specifications info such as this:

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van

that's kind of how I came up with the Caprice drum, the one I found was a 5x4.75. It had one drum on it so I measured everything best I could.

yes, it's a leaf spring rear. Did S10's have 11" drums?

Cool, glad you found one that would fit. Is there a 5 lug drum you can swap on the front so the wheels will match?

I'm looking into that. It is a "heavy half" so the spindle is different than the G10 which had 5 lug. Trying to find out what will fit.

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van

I was told you could change an old solid axle truck (say 1950) from six lug to five lug by installing 1950 car hubs and drums. Yours looks a lot like my 51 truck so that may be possible, but I have never done it.

A G10 van axle would be correct lug pattern and bolt right in, if you could find one.

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van

Cool van! Just FYI I have a new van aluminum radiator in the shop that I ordered wrong and couldn't send back. I could make you a deal and I am just down the road.

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van

FYI- Caprice's were 5x4.75 until 1989, the 1990 and up was 5x5. I know the 49-57 chevy car hubs will fit on the 6 lug truck solid axles, maybe they would fit on the van???

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van

well after much research, the G20 is a bit of a rare van. The disc brake conversions for the G10 will not work, the G20 front drum is not available new and the straight axle & parts from other Chevy trucks are different.
We were thinking we were just screwed.
We were able to determine that a mid 70's K10 rear drum will work. The shoes are the same and they are both 6 lug. We were also missing some hardware so we used some Mustang parts...
