My First Chevy ever! 1969 Chevy C10

Hey all -

I'm the proud new owner of a 1969 Chevy C10 with 292 6-cylinder (technically...almost! I'm having to apply for a title, as it was lost). It's actually my first American made car ever! I've been building Japanese race cars for a long time (got started with the Fast & Furious style cars (no Hondas though!), and I've always wanted a good GM car/truck (secretly looking for an affordable '66 GTO for 30 years now )

A friend of mine had this on his land when he first bough the property. Looks like one previous owner and 44,974 original miles. It hadn't been started for many years and had service records written on the inside driver door panel suggesting the oil was last changed in 1994 with 44,500 miles.

I drained the old gas, put in some fresh fuel, put in a new battery and it fired right up! Ended up rebuilding the carburetor anyway, but it runs strong!

Anyway, I have some questions that I'll post in another thread, but just wanted to introduce myself! I really excited about this truck!!

Thanks!!! Looks like I might have posted this to the wrong place (looks like there is a separate intro forum).

I'm excited to be a part of this community!!

It's ok. You could always use it to post more pics of the truck, stuff you do to it, etc. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

Very cool truck. Love the original white paint. Is it a 4spd?

Oh yeah, it's a 4-speed. It had a camper shell on the back that I removed, and it had a diesel fuel tank in the bed of the truck. It was used on the farm to fuel up the tractors I think.

It also had a cool tow bar on the front of it, so they must have pulled it around a bit (probably accounting for some of the miles).

The major area in need of help is the passenger side bed. It was hit with something and severely dented it. I've never been a body guy, but a friend of mine said I could probably find an old bedside somewhere still, or perhaps buy one from LMC. Do those actually just bolt on? I'll see if I have a pic of the damage and post it.

Thanks!! Yeah, I'm really excited! Should be a lot of fun (and learning, though it seems much easier to work on than some of my other projects).

Yep, just bolt on. I use GMC Paul's for a bunch of stuff. Good customer service and good prices. You may also want to check with AMD.

Re: My First Chevy ever! 1969 Chevy C10

Welcome to the site. Looks like a great start. If you cant find the answers to the questions regarding the trucks on this site it probably cant be answered.
Lots of knowledge here.

Nice truck!
Keep an eye on Denver Craigslist, I’ve seen long bed sides on there occasionally. Usually cheap. I have an extra set, but they’re not in great shape.
They are easy to replace, all bolts except for a couple of tack welds near the tailgate hinge.
