New Alarm damged leds

Installed an alarm in the 54. Added wire from alarm to parking light circuit to flash lights per instructions. Alarm makes all the dash lights light up when it arms and disarms. seems to have burnt of the LED in the new vaccum gauge. Any clues on what to do?

Park light circuit has the dash lights included in it on some rigs.
It may also depend on where you tied in. If it was down stream from the switch you should have been good, up stream from the switch where it ran power though the switch, not good.

If you tied into the park light circuit after the switch as you should have it may be back feeding to the dash lights through the switch. That would take putting a diode inline between your tie in to the park lights between the switch and the tie in to keep it from feeding back.

This is on the exciter circuit on an alternator to keep it from feeding back to the ignition but the concept is the same. the diode in the line prevents power feeding back where you don't want it to go. Doing something like that the white band on the diode would be towards the splice that you tied the alarm into.

I tied into the brown wire (gm 87 k10) running from the switch to the parking lights. It definitely is back feeding to all the circuits fed by the switch even when it is off. Think i will have to either order a diode or maybe buy one of these

hooking to the brown wire for parking light flash is the correct wire. I have installed about a thousand alarms and they all flash the dash lights with the parking lights, never had an issue of burning out a dash light bulb LED or otherwise. sounds like maybe the LED bulb quality isnt up to standard.

Thanks Joedoe thought i did something wrong. Dead led was a cheap chinese gauge light.Multicolor with its own dimmer. Didn't work right anyway. Hopefully when i change over all my incandescent dash lights to LEDS i won't have this problem. The LED reducer poeted earlier is interesting. Anyone know if and how it works?

That would cut the voltage down but from what I read it is primarily to power electronic items that run on 5 volts and low amps. The reviews on that unit say it is noisy as far as noise in your sound system goes.

Joedoh nailed it!!! The multi color led in the vac gauge was garbage. I replaced the incandescent bulbs in the dash with leds and alarmed the system multiple times. LEDs flashed but did not burn out or otherwise malfunction. So far so good. This what i used

one broken bulb on arrival and not too long (don't bump into things inside my original 54 cluster).

Much brighter but not dimmable which i don't use anyway.
