Re: Anyone have $50k laying around?

Yeah, I saw that on a Facebook page. It is beautiful. The only thing that grabs my attention, is the striker. To me, the truck looks to have been painted, but why? Wasn’t this a barn find, if I remember right? And the striker bushing is missing.

That's in my home town! Just a hundred yards south of Oak Hill, and about three miles from me.

Striker should be painted body color. It gets installed in cab shop and goes through paint along with the rest of the cab and installed doors.

I don't have $50k laying around. If I did I'd buy a house, not a truck I'd be afraid to drive

Re: Anyone have $50k laying around?

Keith, the engine bay pic of that ebay truck shows black seam sealer over top of the blue paint. I thought the seam sealer went on first. Your thoughts?

Re: Anyone have $50k laying around?

At this point, that truck is just a collectors item. A time capsule. Trailered show to show.
Couldn't imagine actually driving it. I wouldn't be surprised to see every seal start leaking after 100 miles.

Re: Anyone have $50k laying around?

Looks like a brand new truck. Wonder what the story is, did someone buy it just to store it for the future?

The undercoating on the bed - is that a dealer add on? I didn't know they undercoated back in the 80s.

Correct as shown.

There's a paintable seam sealer (white) installed in the paint shop that gets body color over the top. Goes around all the body flanges, around all the door flanges, around the perimeter of the pickup box floor.

The black stuff shown is more of a sticky undercoating material, applied in the trim shop.

Truck was built in St Louis, in case that ever becomes relevant to the discussion.

Must be dealer - it's not factory. Inside the wheel openings would be body color.

Re: Anyone have $50k laying around?

Does anybody see a window sticker (aka Mulroney Label) for this truck?

I'd love to see a clear photo of the window sticker.

Re: Anyone have $50k laying around?

Actually know [knew] a guy that had stored an SS 454 Chevy truck the exact same way.
I haven't talked to John in a few years, but I bet he still has it. 64 original miles I think.
John bought it strictly as an investment.

Kind of cool. I would like to buy it, slam it, and stuff a 383 stroker in it

Pretty cool truck, not to down play it but...………..no dealer prep but it was undercoated? Plus no striker bushing?

Re: Anyone have $50k laying around?

The striker bushing probably crystalized from age and disintegrated....
