Truck is looking very, very nice! Excellent work!

"Finally starting to look like a truck again" has to be one of the sweetest points in a build, short of "It's finished!"

I have really enjoyed building this truck and have really been happy with the outcome so far. More pics coming soon as everything pans out. I will try and keep this updated more real time than the past year in one day. hahaha. Anyway, thanks for the comments.

Re: 1971 Chevy C10 SWB - Elizabethtown, Ky

Made it to the swap meet this weekend and picked up a couple of parts, hoping to get them on this week and carry on. Got the bed floor painted and dash pad installed. Scuffed and shot the new bed floor, went sating black on the bottom and of course shiny on top. Got it back into the shop today and will hopefully get the front and both wheel tubs shot this week if I am lucky. Going to try my luck on the lottery this week...again to see if I can get it done a little quicker.

Re: 1971 Chevy C10 SWB - Elizabethtown, Ky

Yes it's lowered, 4 inches in the rear and 3 inches in the front. I am afraid that it won't be enough. Hoping as I put every piece back on it drops a little. I guess we'll see.

Yes I got new trim for the top cab between the black and the white. I am currently looking for some small screws to put the clips back on I grinded off the original rivits so I could the back as straight as possible. Hopefully will get it put on this week.

Re: 1971 Chevy C10 SWB - Elizabethtown, Ky

Got a few more things done. Got two of the rear bumper brackets painted and in place. The firewall pad and gas pedal. I redid my rear brake lines. I was completely unhappy with the ones I ordered. They were all bent up. So with a little work I made my own.

Got the wiper arms attached to the motor. Fitting the bed back together, being a little more careful as it's now painted. Hopefully, we'll get the bedsides done this week. Gas tank sending unit, fuel line and vent tube are all hooked up.

Re: 1971 Chevy C10 SWB - Elizabethtown, Ky

Got the chrome trim on around the cab. This was a bigger task then I had hoped for. I bought an aftermarket one, since the original was beat up. I had original ground off all the rivets so I could get the back of the cab blocked and when putting them back in, the new rivets were pulling the sheet metal out. Sooooo, I went and got some aluminum rivets and that did the trick. Still had to "massage" the trim to get it to fit half way decent.

Very nice project you have going Casey! Love and respect all the hard work you guys have done on it in short order. Subscribed....

ps,
just a heads, you might already know but when you do final assembly on your bed, the nuts on the front panel should go on the inside of the bed. The bolts may hit the cab if not. Maybe I'm wrong but, It looks like they maybe the opposite here:

Re: 1971 Chevy C10 SWB - Elizabethtown, Ky

Thanks for pointing that out. I have the front panel painted. Just finishing up the bed sides now. I hope they will fit cab side. I may cut them down. I would rather see the head side inside the bed. I can't remember when I took it apart. Did the nut go inside the bed or cab side? This bed is completely new, I had to cut about all the originals off the old bed due to rust.

They should go with the head toward the cab. I know it doesn't look as good but that's how they are from the factory too. I suppose if you had short enough carriage bolts, they should clear the cab. The problem comes when the cab shifts because it's rubber/urethane mounted. Obviously it's not going to move around a lot but the factory length bolts will hit if you hit a huge bump or pothole.

Ironically, I just finished assembling my bed this week. I ended up replacing all my bed assembly bolts with stainless bolts (just for looks) and on the front panel I used 3/4" button head hex cap screws. LINK(down toward the bottom of the page).

You are doing some great work on the paint! What materials are you using? I assume it's base/clear? Keep up the good work.

Re: 1971 Chevy C10 SWB - Elizabethtown, Ky

Thanks, The white on the roof and the black on the cab and outer bedsides, tailgate, eventually hood, doors and fenders are all base coat / clear coat. The inside of the bed floor, tubs, inside bed sides and front panel are being painted with PPG single stage black.
