Any of you ever been to DogPatch ?

It was a theme park near Harrison Arkansas ,,I was there some years ago with my kids ,around 1974

It went broke many years ago but now it is starting up again with a new name

Dogpatch USA is going to be renamed and revamped in grand fashion, but with reverence to the park's rich history and natural atmosphere.

Dogpatch USA will be called Heritage USA Theme Park at Historic Dogpatch, said David Hare, president, Chief Executive Officer and creative director of the park.

"The new park will capture everything that people loved about Dogpatch, but it will certainly bring it into the modern era.

I know the Other Larry has ,as it is almost in his back Yard..

My cousin says we went, I don't remember though. I guess it's decline was closely related to the fade of Lil' Abner from pop culture. I have followed the history of it and new in recent years. It's always "going to be something" soon. At some point there was a trespassing kid who was injured (nearly decapitated) by a cable who ended up owning the park after litigation. There was a little clean-up done a couple years back and it's supposed to be resurrected again. The old pictures are fun to look at. It's seriously overgrown, you can drive by and not even know it's down there (kind of in a valley).

If I remember it correctly ,,one took a cable car ride down a steep slope to get into the park.. My dad was with me when I went and showed the soap ,makers at the park how they were not making the soap like he did as a kid.. they changed to his way as it was more exciting to make..

My daughter road with me in a old antique car that was guided by guard rails so you would nt run off the road.. of course Daisey Mae caught my eye ..

Went there when I was a kid back in the 70s. Wifey and I drove past it a few years back and there's very very little that's recognizable now. Leevon is right; it's all overgrown.

Re: Any of you ever been to DogPatch ?

Never been there, but remember hearing about it. I've always been a Li'l Abner fan.

There were amusement parks like that dotting the map all over America at one time. We had Enchanted Forest out west of Baltimore off US40. They had those Model Ts guided by rail. That got bought up in the '80s, shopping center on part of land, remainder sat in decay, a few pieces moved to a farm where they sort of rejuvenated a small portion.

Williams Grove in PA was another. There is the modern speedway at another location nearby, but the park is all there but looking worse for repair. There was a flea market held there every Sunday, which was really net. But same thing, some fool out doing what they shouldn't have been doing got hurt so they shut the flea market down and no trespassing signs went up. The flea market is going strong up in the parking lot, they have a steam assoc headquartered there with a stretch of track, there are tractor, team power, and car shows there throughout the year.

Down by Washington, DC along the Potomac River is Glen Echo. I think part of that is still open.

Down river from DC was Marshall Hall. I remember you rode a ship down to that. Very exciting as a kid

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I didn't know about Elvis being a part of Dogpatch,.. interesting

When you traveled the road by Dogpatch ,,did you then and now think it is a mighty crooked road and maybe not enough places to pass for the people who will for sure be in a hurry to get to the new Dogpatch and also when they leave ?

Re: Any of you ever been to DogPatch ?

The only Elvis movie I can think of remotely similar to Dogpatch was Kissing Cousins in 1964.

That was it. I was looking at the real cartoon and got it mixed up.

Re: Any of you ever been to DogPatch ?

I lived in Dogpatch, AR for a while. There was an apartment complex just up the hill from the theme park. It was pretty much done for when I was there but there was a couple of people doing crafts and blacksmithing and such. It was pretty cool. If I remember right, there was a ski resort on down the way from the apartments. Yea, it didn't take off but it was a cool looking building.

Re: Any of you ever been to DogPatch ?

Kitty and I took our girls there when they were little, some thirty-five years ago. Dogpatch had all the people from the Dogpatch story roaming the park and visiting with people. One of the Dogpatch residents is Daisey Mae. Daisey Mae is a curvy blonde in short-short cutoff shorts and a yellow polka-dot halter top. Well the young lady they had hired to play the part fit the bill. Daisey Mae walked toward me and the girls. She bent over, facing me and the girls, to welcome the girls, then looked up at me, smiled real big, and while looking me in the eye, dropped her shoulders which gave me an un-obstructed view of the “hills of Arkansas”! Kitty liked to have come unglued. Somewhere around the house, I have pictures. I will never forget our trip to Dogpatch.

Re: Any of you ever been to DogPatch ?

I did a job in Harrison Arkansas about 12 years ago. I remember taking a drive up in the mountains and driving past the park. I thought how cool of a place that must have been back in the day. It was in rough shape when I was there. At the time I didn't even know the name of the place. I never really thought about it again till I saw this thread. I hope they can restore the park.
