Yoiks, Time flies!

So life is super weird and barely in control for me right now. To take my mind of things I decided to clean my shop. I can barely walk in there ands it’s kind of depressing how disgusting it is. This is more than a one day job, but I’m on a roll and it feels good.

While I knew this stuff was buried in there somewhere, I unearthed a trans and Classic Auto Air unit, both were for my panel.

Date on the turbo 400 short shaft I had built by TCI to go behind a Caddy 500, January 2007, and 2008 on the air con box. If you would have made me guess how long ago I got these things there is no way I would have guessed that long ago lol.

Re: Yoiks, Time flies!

I feel the same way brother.
Today I have been searching my shop over for the heat/a/c controls that I haven't seen in 20 years. I cut the cowl out of a parts truck and it was complete. I know I have it but for the life of me I cannot lay my hands on the controls. I did find some things I didn't remember I had though like 3 new sets of cab mount cushions. I only have 1 truck and apparently forgot I had already bought a set and bought 3 more sets later on. I found a new set of import spark plug heat shields, that don't fit! I found all 4 of the hub caps that came on the 69. I found those two hand saws my granddad gave me 50 years ago. It's not so much that we are unorganized but with so much time passing we've forgot some things along the way.

Re: Yoiks, Time flies!

Man I understand this all too well . Today me and my partner hauled another truck home to the old truck farm and when I had it unloaded I thought I would finally replace the tail light assembly I broke a while back . I have searched all over and cant find the new light assembly I bought .

Same here at my shop.....what's really depressing is to go from mine to my buddy's shop......he's a little OCD and his shop normally stays spotless with everything in it's place......I need a bulldozer to clean mine....

Re: Yoiks, Time flies!

Oh it's easy to hate people like that. Well dislike, some. I tend to hang onto things I think just might be of use at some time in the future. Everything has some value and my pockets are not deep so I keep too much stuff adding to my unorganized state I guess.
I have a hood latch assembly for the 69 and one for a 71. One of which I spent hours on cleaning, sanding, priming and painting only to find out it was the wrong one. Simply because it had been so long I forgot I had two of them..

Re: Yoiks, Time flies!

I think for me it's if I really still have it or not.. I have looked high and low for things to find out I must of sold it or gave it away after our big move to Idaho. And then somtimes I find it in a place I never would of thought it to be....

It' like ,,why put it up if I cannot remember where I put it up at..

I know what you mean. I moved 7 months ago and I am still looking for stuff that I know I have. Just yesterday I was looking for a box of nails that I know I have. I finally gave up and went to the hardware store and bought another box.

I'll probably find the first one now.

Re: Yoiks, Time flies!

I have a friend that I help once in a while work on his drag car. His shop is so clean I really hate to go there sometimes. If we weld or grind he sweeps between the welding or grinding. I just pile the tools up because he polishes the tools as he puts the back in the box. I usually jus wipe them down at home, but at his place I don't bother because of his OCD.

You can only do so much in a two car garage. I have to put stuff away and than I forget where I put them. I also tried to clean up by putting some in the guest bedroom, but I got caught. Just last week I was looking for turn signal bulbs and I found parts for a '40 pick up I sold years ago.

Re: Yoiks, Time flies!

I sure can relate, too. Time capsules all over the place. Is that a thing, time capsule collecting?

I have a 4' x 8' little jiffy trailer Pop Pop gave me about 25 years ago. It has been stuffed back under a hemlock crushed down with rears covered with tarps, I think it's been since '07 as well and there it still sat 11 years later. I had a heap of 67-72 trim piled under there, too. All this from back when I had to move out of the shop (barn) I had been in for years. Plywood floor is absolutely gone without a trace, tires are off the rim and rotten, just a hunk of dead weight. The pallets all the trim was on were rotted, and some lumber I had stashed was looking shabby. I decided it was time to tidy up that area. When I uncovered the rears I make out a DRW HO72 on top. Couldn't think for the life of me how I came about having that or why. How did I even load it on there? Who helped me do that? Just a mystery and the reason I decided to just leave it all on there and just drag the whole thing back. I was going to get rid of that trailer, but instead I'll level it up and build a frame off of the stake pockets to put a little metal roof on.

Anyway... I finally remembered. I had the '71 tow truck with 5.13s and found that 4.10 No-Spin for it. Put it on the pile for later... waaaaaaaaaaay later

Re: Yoiks, Time flies!

Well , I gave in and bought another new tail light for my trailer and guess what ? As soon as I went in my shop the original new one showed up in plain sight . I installed it and will return the other new one because by the time I need it I wont know where I put it . At least my trailer light looks good again. The good thing about LED Lights is even destroyed like mine was it still worked .

Re: Yoiks, Time flies!

I can't find half the stuff I think I bought.

I have a brand new GM crate motor for my C10 I bought in December 2013 on a stand. It's mostly fully assembled minus accessories. The biggest factor in the swap not happening is the motor in the C10 keeps running. It smokes pretty bad from the DS on start up, but still runs.

Re: Yoiks, Time flies!

I'm still waiting for the depressing and disgusting part, Bought stuff and didn't use it, thats OK...look at the quality of what you bought 10 yrs ago, hard to come by now....I was expecting slime and dirt on the floor, not hidden treasure.
