LWB to SWB

SWB 4x4 are next to impossible to find in my area. Im looking into finding a Long bed 4x4 and cutting the frame. How difficult is this? Is it as simple as it seems? Ive search the forums and cant find anything.
thanks:

Can u cut and weld?

You'll be cutting some from the middle of the frame and some off the back. Lots of measuring. Can you find a bed?

i ahve a swb frame for sale, not 4x4, but if your gonna talk cuttin frams a conversion would prob be easier, i ahve a swb fleetside bed too, cheap, the floor is crap but the sides are ok, i 've kinda started body work on them but didnt have time to finish, the swb frame is in the 67-72 parts section

I've got a 1984 short box 4x4 with a GM crate 350 with 330 hp I would sell. It needs a new box and core support. I have already done the cab corners and rockers and they are still in primer. edlebrock carb, rebuilt tranny about 5,000 miles ago, engine still has factory warranty on it. new battery last year, american racing nitrous rims and Goodyear wrangler AT/S 31/10.50R15 tires Email me if interested chevy72402@hotmail.com

cutting frames

I have gone through the conversion from a long to a short box frame. I believe that I had to take 12 inches out of the center and then 8 inches off the back. I have read articles where it was suggested that you z-cut the frame(cut straight up half the frame thickness, straight back 10-12 inches. and the up the rest of the way), but I made my cuts so they were on an angle and wound up being 18 inches from front to back. I haven't entered any toughtruck or rock crawling competitions; but I don't baby my truck either; and I haven't had any problems in the last five years. I was converting from 2wd with coils to 4wd with leafs so I had the shortbox frame for reference during cutting and welding.
