tire size width question.

my truck came with 31x10.5x15 wild country txr and the rears are shot.. I picked up a set of general grabber at2 in 31x10.5x15 and they seem way smaller then the wild country tires.
the truck has stock suspension and really liked the meaty look of the wild country txr.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any tires that are still in production that are meatier then the generals.
here is a picture of the truck with the wild country's

any help would be great
thanks kevin

Re: tire size width question.

Those look like 12.50s. Put a 12.50 tire on it.

Re: tire size width question.

As you found, actual tire dimensions can vary from one brand to another. You can often get measurements on a manufacturer's website. Also, http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp lists the specs of the tires they carry.

that's the odd thing they say 10.50 but are easily 2 inches wider then the generals of the same size.
I'll look for some 12.50's I just don't want to rub.

I've been looking and a lot of tires say n/a or match the specs of the grabbers.

I'll look into the specs of the wider tires and see if they match the wild country's.

thanks

Re: tire size width question.

Tires are measured by "section width" not by tread width. As you have observed, there can be a wide variation in tread width within the same section width. Having been in the same situation, it won't be long before you get used to the new treads and decide it looks just fine.

Re: tire size width question.

ya true but I wish I could lift it a little and run 33's but then it won't fit in my garage lol.

I'll keep searching for a while right now it looks like the goodyears seem to run wider and the bf Goodrich and generals run narrower.

Re: tire size width question.

I ran 33's with no lift on my Jimmy for awhile. 33 14.5 Mickey Thompsons. On 8" rims, they rubbed on the springs in front when turning and inside of rear wheel wells. But on a 10" wheel with same offset would have been fine. 12.5 shouldn't be a problem at all.

Re: tire size width question.

after some research on what other people are running and a little measuring of the 31x10.50 wild country's they are really close to 33x12.50 which is kind of odd.
but going to try to find a half way decent used set on craigslist before buying new one's incase they rub.

thanks for help from everyone.
