Fender horses (50 pickup)

Hey everyone. Nothing special here, but I've been asked a few times about my horses I used to do body work, primer, paint, and buffing. I thought it would be best to do a small thread that I can give people, wether than answering each time. So here goes.

The first 5 pics are of the horses that have been used for about 20 yrs off and on different projects.

Pic 1, 2 and 3 show how the top board holds the fender in place. Holes were drilled to line up with holes in the fender. This distance may be different on each, so just clamp in place, mark and drill holes.

Pic 4 shows notch cut in upright for top board to be screwed too.

Pic 5 shows the cross floor section and how's it's notch on both boards and screwed together so it sits flat. Add braces as needed.

This is a ruff drawing on the size of my horses, but could be changed to suit.

Re: Fender horses (50 pickup)

Here's 3 more pics, showing when I first made these back in 1999 or 2000, I also had addition uprights to keep fender from moving. Never thought I would still be using them 20 yrs later. If your building some use threaded lumber, I didn't but should have.

Re: Fender horses (50 pickup)

I also built horses for the rear fenders. I loaned them out, they changed hands several times and never got them back. They are build similar to the front fender horses, again measure were you want the fender to mount, drill holes, install bolts and washer to hold in place...Jim

Re: Fender horses (50 pickup)

Here are 3 pics and a ruff drawing of the inner fender horses I made. You can see in the pics how it is attached to the horse. Hope this helps someone wanting to do this, any questions just ask...Jim

Re: Fender horses (50 pickup)

VERY good thinking! The time spent on something like that even with only one project can be VERY good time as it saves a lot of time later.

Jim, Thanks for posting these pictures! Now if you had a picture or diagram of a Rack to hold the bed I would really be set. Ray
