Firewall pad adhesive...what to use?

I'm getting ready to install my firewall pad...the original pad was glued to the firewall..
The replacement came with cheap plastic clips that I dont want to use...I dont want to drill holes in my firewall and i'm wanting to glue the new one on...what is the best adhesive to use for this?...luckily they sent me the wrong pad when I 1st ordered it so I have one I can use on scrap metal to test...
The factory pad was a fiber material..(probably asbestos)..the new one is a type of wool looking material..

Contact cement, tape it in place then fold one side back at a time
