thanks... I had to rush and get it together so that I could move it back to my house. I was paying $120/month in rent to be in a big "group" garage....That starts adding up fast.

I'll try a set from autozone or go with energy suspension. I think that they have a set for this truck....

What is everyone's thought about the tranny mount bushings and torque arm bushings being a size larger than the bolt. The outer brackets are the the right soze so it seems like energy did it on purpose.... maybe they want to allow for slight movement or the bushing is just needed for "crush" resistance?
Get the energy suspension mounts. I went through the same thing. I went to 4 different auto parts stores and they all had the same india mounts with the metric thread.

about your drive line being offset the drive trains usually are offset to the passenger side about 3/4" to 1" for brake booster clearance and extra foot room for the driver.

Your tranny mount bushings sound like all the ones I have ever used. They allow a little bit of play so you can line things up. There should be a sleeve that goes through the bushing that the bolt goes through.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

The sleeve is what I meant to say was larger than needed. 1/2" bolt and 9/16 or 5/8 sleeve??? The top and bottom metal brackets are drilled for 1/2" though??

So the mounts are metric? that would explain why it slipped.... I'm taking them back and will order the energy one's... what a PITA!

thanks.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

They don't recommend thinning at all...so I didn't. The primer sealer is pretty thin but covers in one coat, the paint was a little thick though. I used a good foam brush (lowes, wal-mart etc...).

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

2 coats of each (primer and paint) and covered the frame, crossmembers, axles, springs with 1 1/2 quarts of each.

So I needed 4 total quarts, still have 1/2 quart of each left and spent $100 on product and about $20 on brushes. Be sure to buy dishwashing gloves cause this stuff doesn't come off for a week once it's dry! Cleans up with mineral spirits for about an hour, recoat within 48 hours.

you recommend getting the frame blasted or just wire wheel

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

I suggest taking as much of it apart if it's as bad as mine was, then getting it blasted ($150-$250). The primer sticks better to freshly blasted metal and it's faster than doing the wire wheel job...

Gets in those nooks and crannies (think english muffins) like a wire wheel can`t.Mike,do you have any prints of your work?It would be neat to make a didplay for Carlisle.Maybe you could get alot of work from it.
No,I was thinking it would be a nice show off of your progress...motivating to have all to see and comment.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Like I need to work on someone else truck!

The only area that was hard to get to was behind the rear shock mounts. Since I removed most of the crossmembers due to rot it was easy for me.

I could just tow the rolling chassis to Carlisle Tim! j/k

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Well, it's been awhile since I touched the truck. Decided to pick up a new starter ($35) and water pump ($25) and work towards getting the engine fired up again. Painted the new water pump, installed the starter and fuel pump. Next I need to add a Helicoil to the intake so I can get the carb on again and then install my ramhorns. Plan is so blast and coat them but I may get it running first. I'll post some pics tonight...

Oh yeah, I also made a small cart for my cab to move around on. Bet nobody has used 2x6 oak to hold their dolly wheels!

Excellent progress!! Looks great! Keep up the good work.

I built something similar to move my tub around, works great, but I got a little stupid.

Good idea.

I built mine originally to haul my tub home from Iowa and just put 4x4's and wheels under it.

I was looking forward to doing the same when I was down in training in AL, but when I asked around they all said to bring a big stick to ward off the snakes that are apparently all over those places, and I hate snakes...so I never went.
