Back up light switch

Hey all, I know my backup light switch is on the tranny, but I don't know where the wires go from there. I also can't find the wires. Does someone have any pics of where the wires start and end? Thanks in advance.

Agreed, it's built into your neutral safety switch.... it's the one that is semi-circle at the bottom of the column, should have four wires or so on it.

Re: Back up light switch

This is for standard transmission, not automatic. There is a switch on the side of the SM465 for the wires, but not sure where they go to from there. Anyone?

Re: Back up light switch

One of the wires from the switch on the SM465 goes to battery power (keyed). The other goes to the lights. When the tranny is shifted into reverse, the switch is closed, sending juice to the lights.

Thanks, I was thinking that might be how it worked. Don't suppose you have pics of the connections do you? The wiring diagram shows the wire is light green going to the backup lights, but still not sure how power is getting there unless its getting switched somewhere under the dash. Was hoping someone had a pic of the connector at the tranny, then where it goes inside the cab. It has to get power either from the stop switch or the fuse box.

Re: Back up light switch

obviously mine doesn't work cause nothing is plugged into it...

and even if it was, I'm missing the "Backing lp. sw. conn" that the LG and DG wires attach to under the hood... shown in this wiring diagram

Yep, I hear ya. I don't have any wires on mine either, but I did do a tranny swap. Yours should be there unless you converted too, or are like me and just removed them and forgot...

Re: Back up light switch

Ok, I figured it out. First found the connector from the neutral safety switch, this is the connection that goes to the back up lights:

Re: Back up light switch

Then jumpered it to the tranny connection to see if it worked. At first it didn't, the fuse was no good in the fuse box. After the fuse was replaced, back up lights!

Re: Back up light switch

Then made up a harness to go from the tranny to the connector inside, and there you go.

By the way, the connector in my first pic is the one that goes on your neutral safety switch there. Its not under the hood.

Re: Back up light switch

I'm going to need to figure mine out as well. Pretty sure my trans switch is broken I had it plugged in two clutches ago and never worked and left it off. I was just planning on a toggle switch but would love to get it working correctly again. Have to get it inspected for real this year. Used to have a lick and stick Place but they went out of business s few years ago.
