Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Time to clean up from the past couple days in the shop. Feels nice to almost be down with the metalwork on the cab.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Picture of the firewall before I grounds down all the welds. OH and I did cut the fuse block bulkhead whole and drilled the mounting holes.
The painless harness I installed before used long bolts to mount to the firewall. The American auto wire harness uses long wood screws from inside the cab towards the firewall. Looks like I am going to get long bolts or maybe even weld studs in like I did for the column mount.
Has anyone welded studs to the firewall for the fuseblock bulkhead?

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

I don't want to have a bolt or screw through the firewall for the fuse block so I used 1/4-20 x3" countersink machine screw. I used a half inch nut as a spacer to tighten the counter sink bolt to create my own counter sink in the metal. Then ground down the counter sick head and welded it in.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

The firewall with the initial grinding. Now I need to finish the rest of the holes that I welded up and then that is complete.

Ok now what to do next???

That is a great idea on the fuse panel mounting. I'm going to have to steal that idea if you don't mind

Project is coming along real nice!

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Has anyone ever removed the gas pedal bump or raised mount area in the floor? I was thinking about cutting it and folding it down to the same as the rest of the floor pan.

Did you just put bolts in the holes or weld them up?

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Had a few minutes this evening so I cut the low hump out and got the high hump installed. I am going to weld 3/8" nuts to the floor and use stainless steal Allen button head bolts to hold it down. What sealer do I need to seal the high hump to the floor pan?i

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Also drilled a hole for the driver door jamb. This hole is behind the driver AC vent location. If I want to run wires to the door I can just add a conduit from the jamb to the door. Via a conduit.

Unhappy Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

The passenger side does not have a location preset like the driver. So I went above where the AC vent would go.

3M has a product to seal the cover. I think GMC Paul or LMC caries it.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

I think the factory just plugged the holes with some pan head screws originally. You are making everything so smooth it would not surprise that you guys might smooth that also!

Great job on the high hump we welded a square nut on our c10 project prior to cut out similar to what GM had used in our high hump RV cab. I'd like to know what that 3M product is as well?

That's a good idea, just needs to stay put if the high hump was ever removed again.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Got some Raptor liner for the underside of the cab. Oh and some of there Grip prep.
I was able to Rust Mort all the cracks and crevices on the cab. I also DA'ed the underside with 80 grit. Have a couple questions for you guys.
1- do I need to seam seal the underside before the Rapter coating?
2- is there anything I need to do to the underside before I coat?

Thanks guys.
Scott

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Not being a body guy my first thought was to wipe it down with wax and grease remover. I also think when i had a Rhino liner installed they used scotch brite on the surface of the paint.
