Oh. Guess I don't have anything there because of the cross over steering?

Semper Fi. Thanks for saying hi. I would like to get a bunch done this week but by Friday they are saying it's going to be 105. So I'll be hiding inside for the next few days.

Re: 1972 K10 Disabled Veteran First Build

I am currently deployed, and you are building the exact truck I am getting when I get home. Which is my dream truck. I got lucky and my father-in-law found me a spectacular deal on one and I will be getting it in a couple months when I get home.

I will keep checking out your build, and so far it looks great!!!

Thanks for checking in. I have it tore down to the frame. Ready to start prepping the frame and sealing it but I have no idea what's the wisest decision to go with. I have very little money to work with so do I wire wheel the frame, primer, and POR 15? Spend the money on sandblasting and powder coating? That's where I'm at right now. Wondering what is wise and not foolish? Hoping the force is with me.

Re: 1972 K10 Disabled Veteran First Build

Its all in what you can afford, if blasting isn't in the budget then wire wheel and and a 2" dotco grinder with an red or brown abrasive disk can do wonders, then put the Por15 on, por 15 go's direct on the metal to seal the rust.

But before that to get the grime off, scraping and a hand wire brush, then hit it with oven cleaner or a degreaser, and if you have a long enough hose hook it to the bottom of your water heater.

Re: 1972 K10 Disabled Veteran First Build

Media blasting and powder coating is more for show pieces if you are going to drive it then POR-15 is the way to go.
You can remove any heavy rust before you brush it on, polycarbide disks will help a lot with that.

Re: 1972 K10 Disabled Veteran First Build

I used a wire wheel then primer and Rustolium gloss and it looks great .I figured that way i can touch it up anytime with a spray can or brush .If you use por15 it is not ultraviolet protected any where light hits it it has to be painted over .

Re: 1972 K10 Disabled Veteran First Build

When you prime it use Feather light Primer it is less expensive than most. it is a 2 part primer. I can get it for about $80.00 a gallon at a local auto paint store.
