"The White Truck" New Photos

I haven't been on in a while and thought you all would like to look at what i got going on - it's nothing spectacular but it is going nicely. I pulled the engine from my 76 scottsdale - 350 - i had it rebuilt for about 1000 miles and then the tranny went out in the truck - i found this 67 and moved on. it was my father in laws truck - original 283 truck (under the bench now) - posi rear 4spd rockwell t221 transfer case dana 44 in front pretty sad shape when i got it - but it ran(poorly) and everything worked good - father in law replaced the rockers and corners some time ago, but he got them pretty crooked, since its still solid i'm just going to drive it for now - doors close pretty hard.. i pulled the box and pitched it - sanded and primmered and cleaned it up a bit - should be able to drive it again this week or next.

This is the day i drug it home

the engine - it ran but smoked more than i did in college!

it had a orage interior but father in law painted it red... - so i covered it with black

first primer color test - rustoleum rusty metal red primer wins -

pulled the engine -

pulled off the box - rusted beyond... - and notice both leafs ar broke right in front of the axel... bummer

primed the rest of the cab - didnt fix the dents because then it wont matter as much if it happens again that way

finally replaced the leaf springs - had to special order them for this truck - pricey!

painted the frame and cab bottom - all flat paint - ill probably undercoat most of it with rubber undercoating

a bad picture of my interior - i will have to get a better pic because it looks way nicer than this looks

Re: "The White Truck" New Photos

I put a tach in place of my dummy lights and cut holes and installed some gauges - looks pretty good i think - i moved my turn signals to some indicator lights that arent pictured - i drilled tiny holes in the back of the existing light sockets and soldered in all the wires so it all works like it was factory - i should have taken a picture of the back it was much more interesting!!

painted more stuff flat black!

prepped the motor with all new gaskets and a new intake and carb etc.

added rear gas tank from LMC and dual kit from LMC - not just "bolt on" items though!! haha

took this pic yesterday - getting pretty close

finished painting the cab and put the grill back in - thats my Grandpa in the chair holding the floor down - he actually has helped me alot he's a great dude! thats also his shop!

just the other side

Re: "The White Truck" New Photos

took some more pictures yesterday with my nicer camera, finished up a few things under the hood - all I have to do is set the timing and I am rolling - I ran out of time yesterday so hopefully I will get finished later this week! I still have to finish up some wiring under the dash - the blue wire is for brake controller - the green is for the Brake Lock - and the brown is for the gas gauge - and i also notice my temp gauge wire needs tied off

Re: "The White Truck" New Photos

i picked up a brake booster this weekend at the annual Greenfield swap meet - nothing fancy and probably still need a new master cylinder - but i needed on of those anyways, i'm pretty stoked about power brakes!

Re: "The White Truck" New Photos

I started the truck last night finally - very cool - did not have time to setup anything timing or idle etc. - i don't have any water in it yet my drain plug on my radiator is leaking. and i cant afford to but a new one.

I got pulled over for "careless driving" the other night in the SS so i don't have anymore free cash - damn i hate sheriff's - sorry if you are one but c-mon - my tires squeeled a little leaving a stop sign and I know it was when I hit the big painted patch - but he wrote me a ticket anyways!

I know it was just because I was driving a nice car - what a dick - I'm sticking to driving my 98 red 4 door cavalier around town they don't even look at it. I bet I get all kinds of **** when I start driving the truck around. damn i hate sheriff's

I've managed to end my shinanigans moments before the police show up. And I guess it's good most my local guys are car guys...

You'd think a loud orange truck would garner some attention.

Re: "The White Truck" New Photos

another update:

got some stuff figured out last night: no more leaking radiator - i can shut the truck off now with the switch... dumb mistake - but it looks like my harmonic balancer is a little untrue and is tapping on the chain cover - probably my brothers fault but ill only point that finger once -

i drove it back and forth in the shop a little first time it has moved under its own power in like a year - a new clutch is a wonderful thing though it is so much more... secure

ill probably get the temporary tail lights figured out this week and i should be on the road finally

i probably wont be driving for long before the tires give out though - they have been on the truck for about 10 years or more and have done nothing but sit - they are very rotted around the bead - i havent ever had to put air in them though - they appear to be re-treads also...

Re: "The White Truck" New Photos

if the balancer has been hammered on that mightve caused it you need an instalation tool for it

the truck looks pretty good the pictures of the truck when you go it made me suspect the worse but it looks like most of it was superficial rust , it looks great now

Re: "The White Truck" New Photos

thanks

- it has been a while since i have updated this page...

since the last posting i did replace the harmonic balancer - it was probably just tweaked from sitting on a used tire for an engine stand....probably

the tires did start leaking around the bead and i picked up some craigslist tires for $25 a piece

and right now I have been making a point to drive it somewhere everyday -

I love this truck!! it's pretty much a tank - 1st gear in 4lo is amazing to say the least - at 3000rpm's I get to about 6 MPH

the 350 has so much more power than the 283 had whithout the box on it is hard sometimes to keep the tires from spinning!!

the exhaust sounds better than i could have hoped

i plan on building a wood flatbed for it...someday hopefully soon i need to ride my 4wheeler and dont currently have any other means to haul it, i have alot of good ideas for the bed and cant wait to start building it

haha - yea i try not to do anything under the hood while the truck is running right now - it does seem a little dangerous

i have seen 2 people get into a fan and it is pretty nasty - and those both had clutches on them

i try not to think about it....

Re: "The White Truck" New Photos

there was a conversion on the forum a while back they used a crysler?/ jeep fan inside a stock fanshroud and it fitted perfectly , im not sure but it was cheap because it was a replacement set for bad fans that where installed in those jeeps
even if there not available new anymore it might be worth it to get one from a wreckersyard
