C60 questions...

For a very long time I've wanted to put a regular 8 foot bed on a 70s/80s C60, and I think it's finally time to start shopping for one. I'm not really sure what I'm looking for though, I have a few questions:

Did they come from the factory as a crew cab? I know I've seen them, not sure if they were custom.

Is it true they use a different cab than the smaller trucks? Same doors and dash?

Did they come from the factory with an automatic trans? If not, would a TH400 be as easy of a swap as it would be in a smaller truck?

Did they come in 4WD?

Do they all have air brakes?

You can set my truck on fire and roll it down a hill,
and I still wouldn't trade it for a Coupe de Ville.

A few samples of what I've seen.

Re: C60 questions...

My 87 C6500 (GMC) uses the same doors, windshield, and dash pad as my 87 R10 Chevy.
My GVW is under 26K so no CDL required. 4 wheel disc brakes with hydroboost.
Dual axles and air brakes are options, as is a crew cab.
My rear window is smaller - same stampuing as a pickup but different hole cut out.
Cabs mount different - floor and firewall are different - depending upon which front (mine is short tilt) the lower front of the cab may be different (fenders behind the wheel are part of the cab, the rest of the fenders and hood are 1 piece SMC). Notice the different hood/fender between the last one on the first post and the first one on the next post.
4wd is an option but uncommon, C65's often have dual axles in back, have sen them with tag (lift axle) options.
Many differnet engines and trans', usually 5 speed with or without 2 speed rear, Allison auto optional, 350 SBC, 366/427 tall BBC, 8.2 Detroit, Cat diesels, and I'm sure there are others. Be aware that parking brakes are usually on the prop shaft. Seat mounts are different too. My 87 has the 70's style dash with manual choke, old style column and wheel, wipers on the dash.

That's fer sure.

The edges kept getting rounder and rounder as the tooling wore out; if we kept going they'd be a big round ball by now....

Re: C60 questions...

Dumb question - if I find a truck over 26k GVW do I have to have a CDL to drive it, if I'm not using it for commercial purposes?

Good question - Since we often are driving medium and "heavy" duty trucks on engineering ride trips we tried pursuing that with the Michigan Secretary of State - we ended up so confused we finally just gave up -

Re: C60 questions...

Does anyone know if the 73-89 style regular pickup cabs themselves are interchangable with the C50-60-70 trucks?
