Referring to an ad in the 67-72 parts section looking for a single bend 4x4 trans. shift stick. "IF" a person needed such and could not locate one would it not work to heat and bend a double bend sm465 2wd shift stick removing the upper bend leaving the lower bend as it exits the shift boot at the trans hump?

I'm thinking it would be easy to make double bend from a single bend, but not the reverse. At least, I don't think I could get a bend back to straight. I usually end up with two smaller bends. I'm no expert metal worker

Heating the double bend shift stick with a rose bud torch tip and using a steel straight edge for a reference point I "think" it would be do-able. Just have to take it slow with the heat and maybe use a vise to help apply pressure to straighten the stick? Just wondering if it is possible?

I have a painted single bend shifter, and if I was to guestimate, if you straightened out a double bend shifter, it would be too long, unless you like it that way. Also, the first bend down by the floor may have to be straightened a little too to aim the upper portion properly (and not have it hit the transfercase stick when you shift into reverse).

Won't work. It will hit the transfer case shifter.

You can get new sticks from Novac Industries, and they come strait(unbent). So yes you can heat and bend. You might have to call them to order.

It seems like every time I see I photo of an interior with a standard stick and a transfer stick the setup looks a little different than mine. I believe mine is original (70 K20) and the 465 stick has a single bend straight back a couple inches off the boot and the 205 stick bends drastically toward the driver about half way up the stick off the boot. Which way does your transfer stick bend? I've become curious of these stick configurations lately. Here's a pic of my setup... because I like to blabber about my stuff and post pics! Plus I'm sure we can do some measuring and give you some angels if you end up purchasing straight blanks.

My 72 K5 matched your tranny shifter exactly, but the 205 was straight up and down, no sideways bend. Maybe a little lean forward.
